Is RetroArch worth learning if I only plan to play maybe a half dozen emulated games?
I used to Emulate a lot, but with the prevalence of good remasters/remakes, the number of legitimately good games coming out, and my reduced opportunity to spend free time on them, I haven't had much need or interest to.
Recently, I've been dipping my toes back in with things like the Pokemon Unbound ROMhack, but I don't have any reason to think I'll expand much past that. Every recommendation seems to be to get RetroArch because it's the most comprehensive platform, but the learning curve is quite frankly mind-numbing when I have to go through three layers of menus to try to change the volume. I've managed to get the save files working how I wanted and that took a day and a half of not gaming. The other note I often see is shaders which I don't know that I care about and probably would not want to spend the time sink trying to figure those out. Furthermore, it rubs me weirdly the wrong way to need to pick a core and a game file (and trying to link directly to the file is counterintuitive) vs. just making the emulator the default program for the rom extension (e.g. I can just open Pokemon Unbound.gba and it pulls up in vGBA or whichever).
Long story short... is RetroArch just not for me, or is it still worth setting up? Are there any resources on quick-start settings and configurations and which Cores to use, or do I need to check this Reddit every time I decide to add one game? As-is, I don't expect to use more than two, maybe three consoles.
Thanks in advance.
