Balance trouble, is this normal?
this 1915 howard series 6 balance is being an absolute pain in the ass to get in -is it just me, or is this normal? the balance just wont seat into the top jewel and I’m afraid I’m going to smash it.

Okay guys, after some research this appears to be my fault. I bought a donor movement to swap the balance because the original staff was broken and apparently I cannot swap them. During my initial research I only ever heard that parts were interchangeable, only now that I look up this exception am I getting this information. I think I’m going to step back from this hobby entirely at this point. I simply underestimated the money required to get anywhere and thought I could get away with just replacing parts without needing staking sets or fancy tools.
