1930-40s Bulova - Questions

Hi everyone! I just got this black dial Bulova from the 1930s or 1940s a few days ago, and wanted to know what kind of band would work on this. Where the normal lugs would be, these swinging/movable pieces are connected. Anyone have a clue on what kind of band was used here? It doesn’t look like there’s any way to remove the pieces. There’s no cut outs to get to the spring bars.

The caseback of this watch is refused to open

I have this West End watch from the 1940s or 1950s, and it needs a service. Therefore, I took it to two watch repairers, but they failed to open it. Could anyone give me some advice on how to open it without damaging or disfiguring the caseback?

Glad I got that Geiger counter

Always better to be fully aware than to assume based on some internet research or AI responses

Seiko 5 crown o'ring disintegrated

Living in Australia, I bought this Seiko 5 Sport 4R36-07GO Day-Date blue dial stainless steel band, brand new about 2 years ago.

I wear most days, sometimes wear it in swimming at the beach and shower with it on afterwards. Last week, I noticed moisture was inside.

Took the back off, the gasket looks intact, no damage. Dry the thing, put all back together test in shower and moisture came back. Decide to take the crown out to see, (it's a push in pull out crown).

IT LOOKS LIKE the o'ring on the crown has disintegrated and it's completely gone. There was some black dust residue around.

How does this happen? To a 2 yr old watch? I am sure it is a genuine watch. less

Movement keeps falling out of the casing ring

This is my first ever full service, and all of the actual movement servicing went great! But now I am re-assembling the watch and the movement keeps falling out of the casing ring… I’m at my wits end!! It’s an old Seiko with a 7009a movement. I’m setting the movement in the ring on my cushion (1st picture) then putting the case overtop of it and flipping the whole thing over very carefully. When I flip it the movement just falls out of the casing ring and bangs against the crystal. I’ve included photos of the movement, case, and ring as well. It feels so silly that this is what’s keeping me from completing the service… please help!!

Can't find a notch to open this case back, Spartan Time pendant watch

Trying to open the case back on a vintage Spartan Time pendant/fob watch I picked up for a fiver at a vintage store to access the movement. I've checked around the entire seam and can't find a notch or indentation to pry with a case knife.

No visible knurling either, so not sure if it's screw-back, snap-back with a worn/hidden notch, or opens from the front bezel instead.

Photos attached of the case back and front. Any idea how this one opens, or what I should check for?

I'm not a pro at any of this so any help will be appreciated

Thanks!

Cleaning up the plate and bridges

I bought this old pocket watch for really cheap, and as you can see the bridges and plate are quite dark and tarnished.

Is there a method for getting them looking shiney and new again?.

I just wanted a bigger movement as a break from the smaller watch services and focus on the balance reassembly.

Cleaner and oil

My grandfather gave me his watch—an old 21-jewel Orient—which hadn't worked for ten years. I opened it up and disassembled every part, but I didn't see any damage or missing pieces, so I bought a new mainspring. My question is: what should I use to remove the old grease, and what kind of oil should I use to get it running again?

Crown won’t fit on tube?

I feel so dumb because I’m working on a Timex 32 movement. I got the thing all cleaned and running. I’m putting it back together but I cannot get the stem back into the movement through the case because the crown doesn’t seem to fit back over the case tube. Wtf?

Keeping movement in place

I'm having trouble trying to keep this movement in place in the case. It has a metal ring which stops it from moving backwards and forwards when the cashback is screwed on but it doesn't do much to stop it from rotating or moving side to side. The video shows how much it moves around and even with the stem in it still moves around a lot. How can I keep it from moving?

Can anyone help me get this back off?

Can anyone confirm this Hamilton is a pop off back? I have been unable to get the movement out. I was first told that t was a front loader, however, I wasn’t able to remove the stem from the crystal side. It looks like a pop off back, but I’m unable to get it off. Any pointers out there?

How important is a raised workstation?

Im just a hobbiest, still learning lots. Decided to go dedicated workspace via rolltop style desk.

Hopefully the enclosed sides help contain launched parts😎

Anyways, i know watchmakers use raised desk - i guess i could make a frame and raise up the entire desk or i recently saw the little raised work tables you put on a desk.

For now i havnt had too make issues hunched over, i actually need the lower workspace if i use the microscope.

Just curious what eveyones opinion is on this

Bit of a noobie, but how do I regulate this? It won’t move

Early 1900s Elgin watch. I’m trying to move the regulator arm but it doesn’t move. I don’t want to force it. It seems to be a different design than the others I have. Not sure if there is something weird about it. Thanks

Painting watch hands - advice please!

I have some tiny chronograph sub-dial watch hands I'd like to paint white. At the moment, they are bare, polished steel, but with a black outline that I'd like to keep.

For such fine work, I was thinking of using a fine-tipped sharpie with oil based paint to paint the body of the watch, which would then allow me to preserve the fine outline.

Would love some opinions or suggestions.

Thank you!

Edit: i have added a photo to the comments in case it helps.
