Hot take: Awaarapan never needed a sequel. It needed a really good remake.

Hot take: Awaarapan never needed a sequel. It needed a really good remake.

I absolutely love Awaarapan (2007). It’s one of my favorite Mohit Suri films, and the album is still on repeat for me. Toh Phir Aao, Tera Mera Rishta, Maula Mere Pritam absolutely cooked with that soundtrack, and Emraan Hashmi was terrific as Shivam.
That said, after watching the Awaarapan 2 teaser, I felt something was missing. The nostalgia hit because of Emraan and Toh Phir Aao, but beyond that, I wasn’t completely sold. The scale and cinematography look polished, but I don’t know if I’m getting the same raw emotional intensity that made the original work.
Which brings me to my unpopular opinion, The movie deserves a good remake and not a sequel.
The core story is timeless. A broken man searching for redemption through sacrifice still works in 2026. Awaarapan had a few plot conveniences, some underdeveloped character arcs, and writing choices that could be tightened considerably today. Keep the emotional core intact, but update the screenplay, deepen the characters, fix the loopholes, and make the narrative even more gripping.
A modern remake could also update certain story elements to fit today’s context while preserving the soul of the film.
The remake could possibly be helmed by Mohit Suri himself, as he knows the world better and has actually spoken about his interest in making a sequel for it a lot of times. Nitin Kakkar is directing the sequel.
Another reason I think a remake could work is because Mohit Suri is genuinely good at introducing and extracting strong performances from fresh faces. Just look at what he did with Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in Saiyaara or even Aditya Shraddha back in 2013. Instead of relying on established stars, he could take a similar route with Awarapan and build it around newcomers who fit the characters rather than their market value. In fact, since his next film is again with Ahaan and Aneet, I can even see them headlining a remake if the casting clicks. And if not them, there are plenty of talented newcomers and younger actors today who could bring a fresh identity to the film.
If not them, for the male lead, actors like Vedang Raina, Ishaan Khatter, or even some other newer performers could bring a fresh interpretation without trying to imitate Emraan. For the female lead, I’d honestly prefer stronger performers like Sharvari, Pratibha Ranta, or someone from the newer generation who can bring more depth to the role. A remake would actually be the perfect platform to launch or further establish a new generation of actors while preserving the soul of the original story.
One of my biggest issues with the original was that the female lead’s performance never matched the emotional weight of the story.
And honestly, if there’s one thing Mohit Suri consistently gets right, it’s music. Whether through fresh compositions or reimagined versions of classics like Toh Phir Aao and Tera Mera Rishta, I trust him to deliver an album that balances nostalgia with something new.
I hope Awaarapan 2 turns out great. But if you ask me, Awaarapan is one of Bollywood’s strongest remake candidates. The original story is good that a well written, modern reimagining could genuinely become a huge hit for a new generation.
Anyone else feel this way, or am I in the minority here?

The Next-Gen Bollywood Girls & Their Brand Portfolios: Who Has the Biggest Commercial Potential?

I’m excluding Suhana Khan, Rasha Thadani, Khushi Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor. They have heavy Nepo advantage.

I’ve been looking at the endorsement portfolios of Bollywood’s newest actresses and something interesting stands out.
Among the current newcomers, we have:

Aneet Padda:
Lakmé
Mia by Tanishq
Reliance Trends
Pepsi
Perk (reportedly replacing Alia Bhatt)

Sara Arjun:
McDonald’s
Pond’s
Google campaign (appears to have been a campaign collaboration rather than a long term ambassador role)

Sharvari:
Sprite
Nykaa App
Godrej Professional
Lifestyle and
Other campaigns

Pratibha Ranta:
Simple skincare

What caught my attention is not just the number of brands these actresses have, but the speed at which brands started investing in them.

For example:

Aneet Padda
Within roughly 1.5–2 months of Saiyaara’s release, she had already landed Lakmé and Mia by Tanishq.
Reliance Trends followed. Then came Pepsi. Now reports suggest she has also signed Perk replacing Alia Bhatt. So in less than a year from her mainstream breakthrough, she has accumulated endorsements across beauty, jewellery, fashion, beverages and FMCG.
That’s an unusually diverse portfolio for someone so early in her career.
What strengthens the argument further is that Vogue Business featured her in their “The It-Kids of India” list and specifically highlighted her commercial performance.
According to the article:
Instagram followers: 4.4 million
Q1 2026 average MIV (Media Impact Value): $605,000 per placement
Her top collaboration posts generated $206,000 and $318,000 in MIV respectively.

She has one of the strongest organic fan following among the new gen actors.

For someone with only a handful of mainstream projects, those numbers are impressive and suggest that brands are seeing measurable returns from associating with her.

Sara Arjun
Sara is arguably the closest competitor in terms of public awareness. She already had recognition from her child actor years especially down South, and after Dhurandhar , she gained significant mainstream visibility.
She again also has one of the strongest organic fan followings among this group.
However, what’s interesting is that despite almost seven months passing since, her ambassador portfolio currently appears little smaller.
She has McDonald’s and Pond’s, while the Google association seems to have been a campaign partnership rather than a continuing ambassador role.
This is not a criticism of Sara at all. Just curious on her branding and visibility route. She can easily get some popular brands, her team should pull up their socks and get her brands.

Sharvari
Sharvari is probably the most established among the four. She already has:
Sprite
Godrej Professional
Nykaa App
Lifestyle and few other brands
and has become recognizable to mainstream audiences. The reason I place her slightly differently from Aneet and Sara is that Sharvari’s rise feels more gradual and film driven, whereas Aneet’s commercial growth has been extremely rapid.

Pratibha Ranta
Pratibha currently has the smallest endorsement portfolio.
However, she has something increasingly valuable: credibility. Her appeal feels more performance oriented than influencer oriented.
I wouldn’t be surprised if premium skincare, wellness and lifestyle brands start approaching her as her filmography grows.

My Current Ranking(my personal ranking based on sources and facts available)
Brand Value Right Now
Aneet Padda
Sharvari
Sara Arjun
Pratibha Ranta

Future Endorsement Potential
Aneet Padda
Sara Arjun
Sharvari
Pratibha Ranta

The reason I put Aneet first is not just because of the number of brands. It’s because brands signed her very quickly after her breakthrough.
Her endorsements span multiple categories.
Vogue Business highlighted her MIV performance.
She has one of the strongest organic fan followings among the newcomers.Brands seem to be betting on her future value rather than waiting for a larger filmography.
At the same time, Sara Arjun feels like the wildcard here. One major hit and conversations can change.

Also each have different agency/team representing them.
Aneet and Sharvari are YRF Talents, Pratibha is represented by Dharma’s Talent agency and Sara has a personal team handled by her manager Lokesh and parents and not Reshma Shetty.

What do you guys think? Who currently has the strongest brand value among Aneet Padda, Sara Arjun, Sharvari and Pratibha Ranta?

PS. please keep the conversation respectful and related to the post and do not make it a fanwar. Just because your fav is not in the top doesn’t make me someone else’s PR. This is my personal analysis based on data and published articles and some insights from my colleagues from the Advertising departments. Posted this elsewhere and it turned into an unnecessary fanwar. Pls share your thoughts and insights and guesses.

We need more young, youthful Indian shows like Big Girls Don’t Cry

I genuinely feel we need more young-adult and teen -centric shows in India led by young actors. One of the few recent examples that comes to mind is Big Girls Don’t Cry.
Was the show perfect? Not at all. In fact, one of my biggest issues with it was that it tried to deal with so many themes and storylines at once that it sometimes lacked a clear focal point. With so many characters being treated as co leads, it became difficult to emotionally travel with every storyline at the same time. Personally, I think it could have been even stronger if it had one central protagonist through whom we experienced the larger journey.
But despite all its flaws, I still remember enjoying it.
What really stood out to me was the cast. Aneet Padda as Roohi, Dalai as Pluggy, Avantika as Ludo, Lhakyila as JC, Akshita Sood as Dia, Afrah Sayed as Noor, Vidushi as Kavya and the rest of the ensemble were fantastic. My personal favourites were Aneet Padda, Lhakyila and Akshita, but honestly the entire cast brought something unique to the show.
I watched Big Girls Don’t Cry long before I watched Saiyaara. So when I saw Aneet I recognised her from BGDC and was actually happy. The show gave a platform to fresh talent, and now one of those actors is one of the most promising young talent in mainstream Bollywood.
The series also had a beautiful soundtracks. I was genuinely surprised when I found out that Aneet Padda had written, composed, and sung Masoom, which plays in the show in one if the episodes. Rewatching it made me realize how multi talented some of these young performers are.
And that’s exactly why I want more shows like this.
Not necessarily boarding school dramas, but shows that actively discover and nurture young talent. Right now, when people talk about promising young actors in mainstream Hindi cinema, the list feels surprisingly small. Names like Aneet Padda, Ahaan Panday, Vedang Raina, Sharvari Wagh, Pratibha Ranta, Sara Arjun, Abhay Verma and a few others come to mind, but we need a much larger pool of young performers.
Young actors need opportunities before they become stars. They need projects where they can make mistakes, experiment, and grow. Shows like Big Girls Don’t Cry can serve as that launchpad.
I’m actually exited for Alia Bhatt’s upcoming production, which reportedly introduces four new outsider actors. Whether the show succeeds or not, I appreciate that she is willing to take a chance on fresh faces and apparently they are all outsiders. She said this in an event I remember.
We often complain that Bollywood lacks new talent, but talent doesn’t appear out of nowhere. It comes from creators, directors, writers, producers, and streaming platforms being willing to back young stories and new actors.

Aneet Padda during Big Girls Don’t Cry Promotions

Saw this Ok tested video of Aneet Padda. This was her big girls don’t cry promotions time in 2024. The girl had such a spunk and fun personality. She was so confident, energetic, well spoken and actually funny. Why is she not letting her natural fun personality come out? Is YRF PR and Adi Chopra behind it and asking her to be this timid shy girl to milk the Saiyaara factor? She should let this spunky side of her come out more often. She seems to have a good humour sense and can do well in comedy genre.
Aneet, girl be yourself and have fun and come out of Saiyaara. You have such a fun personality.
