Confidence building with a fearful puppy

Confidence building with a fearful puppy

Hello everyone,

I adopted a pyr puppy who was placed in a shelter due to being attacked by some sort of doodle (large one) at 10 weeks old. She’s ready for full socialization now, but she gets so scared when she sees dogs in public. She will sometimes try to bolt on a leash if the owner doesn’t have a handle of their dog and it gets close to her. How can I try building her confidence around stranger dogs? She lives with two ACDs that she loves and has no issue with.

Struvite crystals in 5 month old puppy, C/D food for life?

Hello, I adopted a pyr mix from a rescue in AZ 3 months ago. She is 5 months old currently. She developed a severe UTI seemingly out of nowhere June 15th. She was urinating copious amounts of blood, we rushed her to our vet who diagnosed this incident as a UTI per a urinalysis. She was prescribed Gabapentin 100mg Capsules (per cap) Give 1 Capsule By Mouth Twice Daily For 7 Days For Pain and Clavamox 250mg Tabs (per tab) Give 1 Tablet By Mouth Twice Daily For 14 Days To Treat Or Prevent Infection. She took the FULL round and soon after she stopped that round of antibiotics she began to strain severely again. She is currently able to urinate but then will continue to strain for 2 or so minutes while walking in circles. So, I made another appointment on June 30th and a UA/Microscopy was done. They found struvite crystals, her ultrasound literally looked like glitter in her bladder with an inflamed lining. So she was placed on a C/D Urinary diet effective immediately, no transition from her current food. The vet told me this is permanent and she will be on this food her entire life. I’m concerned because from what i’ve heard (i’m clearly not a nutritionist or vet) these foods aren’t that great (hills and purina pro) and they are very expensive. I called my local pet store asking if they carried it and they dang near yelled at me for daring to feed these brands to a growing puppy, saying I need to feed raw instead. This is not to say i’m not willing to feed them, I certainly am especially because she deserves no more pain. I am just curious what other vets think about my vet’s opinion? Should I get a second opinion or is this good? I’m going to paste her results here.

Any advice is appreciated! :) Thank you for all the hard work you guys do!
