Trying to power LEDs from battery with switch

So I’m trying to follow instructions found online but can’t seem to work it out. I’ve soldered copper wire to a switch which then runs to a housing for a cast iron magnet. In the other magnet housing I have copper wire running from the magnet to three 1.5V button batteries. I connect either end of the SMD LED wire to either magnet to test if it will light and it won’t. I’ve used the magnets in different positioning. Tried connecting the LeD directly to the copper wires. I’ve switched the batteries around back to front. I’ve used different LeDs. I’m a complete noob so pls don’t judge and thanks in advanced.
