Re-read thread before ACOTAR 6?

I would love a place to chat with anyone else rereading the books before the next release! I’m a mom of 2 babies so I’m probably going to use the audiobooks this time around cause I won’t have time to sit and read much. I’m not as Reddit/tech savvy as I once was 😅 if anyone knows of a way/place to get something like this going I’m all ears!! I’d love to discuss everyone’s insights on their reread: things you’re just now noticing, things you forgot, opinions that have changed, anything!

SPOILERS! Just finished Ballad, not sure how I feel about…

Literally all of it lol.

I really enjoyed the book overall! I felt like it just dragged a lot and we had chapters upon chapters of just traveling. And The writing wasn’t great in my opinion. Both books are so wordy, every sentence seems to go on and on. I can appreciate this at times to paint a beautiful picture but it felt like it was too much, like in trying to read through it I couldn’t get the image in my head that Parker was going for. Sometimes more is less 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m also not a fan of knowing things our main characters don’t know. So the reveal of Raeve being royalty and Kyzari being their daughter felt very anticlimactic to me.

The characters! I find Kyzari and Ahvi the most interesting right now and I’m falling for the theory that he is her son or connected to her somehow. I love Kaan and Raeve, I don’t care that she had her head up her ass for half the book that’s my baby lol! I’ve seen others critique her lack of growth b ur she’s an angry stubborn woman, I did not expect her to change over night. Her drawn out character development feels realistic to me. Other characters like Grihm, pyrok, Veya… why am I supposed to care about them? I know there’s another book coming and I’m sure they are set up for bigger things but Veya for example… what was the point? She didn’t lead our main party to Kyzari, she helped keep her alive a bit yeah but she was kinda useless the whole time. Grihm, while the end was awesome and clearly leading to bigger plots, I don’t feel like the entirety of his story was necessary and it didn’t do much to make me actually care about him either.

Pyrok is the same thing, why do we care about him? What is this leading up to? Wtf is going on with Essi? How and why are they connected? What does his relation to Dothea have to do with anything? He has like zero personality outside of being a sad drunk who knows how to feed a dragon.

Arkyn… I really hope we see more of him. I hate a flat villain, there has to be more to his story and personality than just vengeance and insecurity.

The ending: is Slatra gone? Why was she ever blind? Where the heck is Roan?! Why did Hadeon come out able to talk and speak while Raeve had to relearn everything?
