You can understand trauma and still not like a character

This is not an anti-Nesta take. This is a weird discussion to have on Reddit of all places but it needs to be said because it is prevalent in this fandom. And at this point, I think mods in certain places need to stop allowing certain comments.

We do not owe the internet our life stories to have an opinion on a book character.

We do not need to list our mental health diagnosis to have an opinion on a book character.

Ww don't need to discuss why you "relate" to a character. These characters are not real. We can tell people our story, your traumas, whatever-if we want to. But we shouldn't feel forced to explain our stories to strangers on the internet why we may not like a book character. These characters are not real.

None of us are Nesta. Or Elain. Or Feyre. We can understand PTSD. We can understand depression. We can understand why characters do certain things. But we've never died UTM. We've never been thrown into a cauldron and turned into faeries.

I am so so so sick of comments from people telling anyone that if they don't like a book character that it "must be nice to not understand trauma".

Just shut up.

Flashbacks Crack Theory?

I know this is a crack theory, but i have genuinely been SEARCHING for a rhyme or reason to why the colors on the covers are so unattractive looking 🫣 and this is the only valid explanation. And I know the ombré is to help readers understand that they are the same book, but why not choose more appealing, coordinating colors? Maybe an ombré in shades of purple? Or make book 6 purple, book 7 ombré purple to cobalt, and then book 8 cobalt. She picked the colors intentionally to match the previous highlighter cover books. but why?

Based on the blurbs, we are DEFINITELY getting some forward plot momentum post-ACOSF, but I think there could be some significant page time devoted to flashbacks. scenes and memories from other characters set during the previous books?

And it would explain her weird language on CHD about the narrative structure of this story being somehow different than her typical style. Full scale multi-POV is the same as how she normally writes, so that can’t be it.

Here are the quotes from CHD:

“But like what I was writing felt right.
Like that was what the story was what the story that needed to be told. And so I decided I wasn't going to approach this project from a, you know, traditional format of a book.”

“And so I just decided, like, l've never told a story that way. This is how it wants to come out. Why do I have to be held back by the realities of, like, the glue that we need to hold, like, hold the pages in or just, like, placement on a shelf?”

How is everyone today?

Are we good? Are we feeling better? Are we feeling complex feelings?

„The Ring of the Nibelung“ by Richard Wagner. The inspiration for the Valkyrie cycle?

Everyone go and read about „The Ring of the Nibelung“ by Richard Wagner. The inspiration for the Valkyrie cycle. This is definitely connected. The last movement/opera/play was on August 17, 1876.

Title announcement was on August 17, 2026 🤭 surely not a coincidence!

ACOTAR 6/7: MEGATHREAD

Hi everyone! It’s time for theories and speculation, but we’d like to collect everything in one megathread instead of having several separate posts. Please use this thread to talk about the titles, covers, and blurbs!

The blurbs are very focused on the IC! Let’s talk about it!!

Be serious with me: Do I really need to read ToG and CC before the next ACOTAR book (6)?

I tried to get into ToG and also CC. I felt quite confused with CC and weirded out. With ToG, I will say it is pure fantasy to start with at least so it didn’t hold my interest. Now, with the supposed links between ACOTAR 6 and the other series— I feel like I have to read those.

However, from a commercial literary perspective— why would this be a necessary decision? I think the next 2 books surely need to operate in a way that makes sense to the ACOTAR only reader, otherwise it should come with a point that you will never really understand the plot of these books unless you read CC and ToG.

Perhaps this is why the blurb for the 6th book took me back a bit. As an ACOTAR only reader, the only ‘tensions’ I could identify for the NC were:

• The obvious Rhys v Azriel dynamic of being told not to pursue Elain from a bonus chapter (however I don’t think that would cause such a rift). Let’s say Azriel and Elain find eachother again and kiss and let’s say Lucien sees. Sure some tension but there has to be more. Or if Elain sees Gwyn with the necklace and it uproots a deep sense of disappointment in her that causes her to crash out.
Sure, but that’s so much more personal as opposed to to court wide.
• Rhys v Nesta because Nesta hates him inside.
• Mor’s background.
• Feyre v inner court: Hiding the fact her baby could have killed her etc etc but Feyre tends to view all of the NC with rosy glasses.

That then leaves me to explore the other stuff, and yeah I haven’t read CC or ToG but I’ve caught up with what the more significant turmoil could be:

• Bryce and Azriel and Nesta: Nesta giving Bryce ‘the mask’, maybe it becomes a crucial thing to fight against Koschei. We know Rhys puts her on house arrest. That seems more troubling.

So, the CC link seems to me to be the most interesting. However, how can SJM expect those who haven’t read CC to understand this?

Feyre's back tattoo ?

“I smiled at him, bathing in that power, and sent an image into his mind. Of the column of my spine, now inked from my base to my nape with four phases of the moon. And a small star in the middle of them.”

Does Feyre also have 8 pointed star in her back tattoo ?? she got it after her bargain with bone carver . I only found one description of her back tattoo but it only says small star in the middle..

There are other fanart of her tattoo where between th e moon phases , it's 3 peak of mount Ramiel and each have star on top of it !

Cultural appropriation of Illyrian wings ??

Feyre is a shapeshifting High Fae who inherited powers from all seven High Lords, including Rhysand (who is half-Illyrian). When she grows wings, she isn't wearing a costume or mimicking a traditional garment she is utilizing a biological capability granted by her magic.

Its not like she asked to have those wings or any powers. She was given those powers and any other traits that comes after becoming High fae .She literally died after breaking the curse and mother granted her those power to Feyre . Let's be real none of high lords resurrected Feyre knowing they are actually giving her powers too .They themselves were unaware that Feyre inherited those powers .My theories is that Feyre was given those powers by mother through High lords just like mother let nesta have some powers despite cauldron wanted back .It's means Mother plays bigger role and find these girls worthy of these powers .

Feyre now naturally have Wings , so how is it cultural appropriation if she have something that naturally grows out of her back ???? Feyre does not manifest wings for fashion or aesthetic dominance , she learns to use them out of physical necessity first to escape, fight in war, and traverse high-altitude mountainous terrain alongside her court. She literally trained by Azriel who is illiyrian himself .

People literally make stupidest arguments just to hate Feyre 😑

Mini rant- “the POV is going to be shocking!”

Alex- “You can’t tell us whose POV it’s from?”

Sarah- “Um, no. And that was one of the surprising things for me and writing this and what came out. You get a lot of insight into various things.”

-how on earth did this turn into “SJM said the POV will shock us!” bc I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard people say this on TikTok

She is clearly saying that the process/result of the POV gave her unexpected insight into different characters/things, not that the POV itself was surprising

We do NOT need another build-up book 🛑

I keep seeing people say that ACOTAR 6 is going to be another setup/transition book, and honestly? WE DO NOT NEED THAT.

Like, look, I’m not saying we need to dive headfirst into a full-scale war right on page one, but let’s be real for a second: the foundation has already been laid. SJM literally built all the groundwork across ACOFAS and ACOSF. What else is there even left to set up at this point?!

In ACOSF, while Nesta was walking up and down the stairs, all the events stayed in the background, we couldn't move forward, and we didn't get to find out what happened. Which is actually normal because Nesta's book is character driven, not plot driven. Anyway, back to the point.

Look at all the plot threads just sitting there waiting to be picked up:

Elain Archeron: The last sister. What are her powers besides being a Seer? Is she going to become a spy?

Azriel: The last Bat Boy whose story hasn't been touched, and he’s still walking around wrapped in total mystery.

Lucien & Family Drama

The Mating Bond: Did nature make a mistake here or what?

World-Building Loot: The Dusk Court, Kochei, Baron, Eris, Vassa...

The list genuinely goes on and on. So much has already been built. WHAT ELSE DO WE NEEEED?! 🗣️ Give us the main plot, give us our main characters 😩

I mean, I could totally end up being wrong and we might get hit with another massive world-building phase, but honestly? I do not want that. We’ve built enough at this point, let's finally get the plot moving.

Did ACOMAF Move Too Quickly With Feysand and Feyre Becoming High Lady?

I've been rereading ACOTAR and I just want to rant and maybe get some different perspectives from others on something that's been bothering me.

I believe MAF was a bit too fast paced in terms of Feysand's relationship and Feyre becoming HL. It didn't really struck in my last rereads that by chapter 54 it's been only a couple of months since Feyre left Tamlin and the SC.

By the beginning of MAF it's been a year of Feyre living in the SC and having a relationship with Tamlin (even though they fell in love months before that). Then it's not even half a year later that she falls in love then gets with Rhysand and becomes HL of the NC.

Now don't get me wrong. I love Feyre (like she's my favorite character), I love Rhysand, I love their relationship and I love the IC.
But it's just too fast to build the easy going, open relationship they have after chapter 54. It's definitely way too fast to have her now be authoritative towards the IC by beginning WAR when she was still trying to build a friendship with most of them.

I feel like her and Rhysand getting together would have hit differently (and maybe even better) if it happened in WAR. I would have loved to see them spend the rest of MAF in a physical relationship, like Feyre wanted at that inn. Feyre coming back in WAR after being taken to the SC would have been the moment to have those confessions of chapter 54 happen. Then her becoming HL could have happened after, half of WAR would have been good to set her up as a leader (especially as they were in a time of war).

This is just me doing some thinking in how this could have been done more progressively, as it's just them getting together in chapter 54 and then her becoming HL at the end of MAF that kind of bothers me. It's definitely not them getting together at all or Feyre becoming HL generally.

I would definitely appreciate receiving a different perspective on this, or even just see that someone else feels this way and it's not me entering psychosis because of the constant smear campaign against Feysand and the IC. 💀
