⬆️ Thats from the blurb for book 7 A Court of Forgotten Melody. The blurbs may seem vague but they actually tell us a lot.

What other reason would that be happening? and why would the IC, personally, have to be diplomatic about it other than Elain rejecting the bond?

Rhys and the Inner Circle would have to be diplomatic only if it involves one or two of them doing something to cause the issue.

I think by the end of book 6 either Elain will have rejected the bond or Lucien will have caught Elriel together, and called for a blood duel. You may say “Lucien wouldn’t do that!” But if he truly is feeling a mate instinct he absolutely would even if he doesn’t even want Elain. Or he could he manipulated into doing it by someone. Either way the blood duel is something thats part of the story and has been foreshadowed since acowar. It’s happening.

Just a fun theory: maybe Lucien calls for a blood duel after catching elriel together, and Elain runs off with Azriel because she doesn’t want either one of them dying and thats how elain ends up meeting Azriel’s mother cause they go to Rosehall to hide.

I love this line and scene cause it shows us our first glimpses into Azriel’s personality and dynamic with the ic and bat boys and also why he gravitates towards Elain. He’s the introvert of the group, hes quiet and solemn by nature. We see over and over that its sometimes too much to be around so many extroverts like we see in the IC even though he loves them. We see this behavior with non family extroverts too, like Gwyn, he doesn’t match that energy at all.

So when he makes it a point to choose to spend time with Elain and seek her out it’s notable. No one is pushing him to do anything, it’s what he wants to do. It brings him peace to just sit and just exist with another person that matches his energy. Both he and Elain share the same stoic dry humour and quips most people wouldn’t even consider banter and its actually Elriels preferred kind. They are literally perfect for each other.

I was curious. Is there a specific artwork or artist that perfectly encapsulates how you visualize shane and ilya(if you share please credit and no ai)

I didn’t read HR until after the show so its hard to picture them as anything different

I pointed this out early and, honestly, it’s so true.

I have read HUNDREDS of romance novels. Many where you don’t even get the MMCs pov and you definitely don’t get any side characters romance povs. I have never questioned their love for each other. I have especially never questioned SJM when it comes to her characters endgames and attraction. None have ever shocked me.

EVERY SINGLE romance and romantasy book follows the same pattern and acotar is no different.

So why now am I supposed to question my own reading ability when it comes to Elucien and Elriel? Why now are basic romance writing tools and processes not correct?

I’ve never been surprised by an endgame pairing especially when it comes to sjm so why now am i just supposed to wait and see for elain and luciens pov and what she does with them after 4 books of very clear and obvious Elriel set up(and zero set up for elucien)?

I didn’t need nessians pov, i didn’t need amren x varians pov, i didnt need the side romances in CC povs, etc.

Certain shippers act as though the characters are sentient beings who just happen to not see each other enough so they don’t know each other well enough yet. They are written that way by their creator on purpose. If they were meant to be a love story i wouldn’t have to wait for 4 books for something. It would have started the second they met each other like elriel, like nessian, like feysand.

Besides the fact that it will obviously not “officially” happen until Elain’s pov, Elain has been rejecting Lucien. Multiple times and consistently.

We don’t even know if the rejected bond is an actual ceremonial official or physical thing that has to happen or its what she has already been doing.

Every single time Elain and Lucien are on the page together she is rejecting him as her mate. When she ignores him, when she shrinks away, when she walks away, when she literally says out loud that she doesn’t want a bond and question if he is entitled to her time and affection, when she pursues Azriel, when she is pushed by Feyre to invite him because she wouldn’t have done that herself, when she doesn’t use his gifts, etc etc.

Peoples intentions are not always spoken out loud. Inflection, body language and expressions are probably the most important language there is. Thats why SJM describes Elain’s reactions to Lucien so thoroughly and why she shows such a juxtaposition with Elain’s interactions with Azriel. Just compare Elriel and Elucien in acofas alone. Back to back interactions that are completely different. Elain leaves the room to hide when lucien is around but stays up late just to talk to az a few chapters later.

This Inej/Kanej quote from Six of Crows will always be Elriel coded.

Elain has always had attention always had suitors and “prospects” for marriage but its Azriel who has always looked deeper at Elain. One of the only people who has truly tried to know Elain, to listen to Elain, to read Elain without words. Thats what she truly wants.
