Just finished Fourth Wing (first book), what are these bonus chapters I am hearing about?

I literally just finished Fourth Wing (book 1) and I jumped onto social media and am seeing a lot of stuff about bonus chapters from Xadens POV. I know I read the last chapter in his POV but that’s the only one. Is that a bonus chapter or where do I find the bonus chapters? And are they for other books or book 1? Appreciate any help yall can provide to this newbie!

Edit: okay I have been made aware the bonus chapters go with Iron flame. So I will be waiting to find these. New topic though, what’s the difference between the audio book and the graphic audio? I read the physical book but now I want to find out what all the hype is about and listen to it.

Underrated Characters?

Currently in the middle of my reread and I’m 25% done with IF. I was thinking to myself that Jesinia is such a good friend and honestly probably one of the most underrated/overlooked characters in the books.

Do you guys have any other characters that you think are underrated or overlooked?

Cover Colors Theories

We know that there are connections to each cover’s colors in regards to each book, so what are we thinking in terms of the next 2 books for cover colors?

I’ve seen where the colors of each cover blend into the next book when books are placed in a row vertically, and the colors are loosely based on the content of the book, so based on theories of the next plot point, what are your opinions on the next covers’ colors?

Another theory is that the color changing between each book represents the change in Andarna’s scale colors. What do you think about that theory?

Was at a Veterinary CPD and they had free notebooks and stickers

So I went to a veterinary CPD and they had these stickers in amongst veterinary related ones. Lol. Couldn't pass it up. Still don't know who the fourth wing fan is. 😂

“Not book 4” clubs and theories

What we know for sure
📖 Release date: September 29
📄 Length: 224 pages, much shorter than the main novels.
🎧 Audiobook length: Almost 12 hours, while the previous books were roughly twice that length.

The clues Rebecca has been dropping
🔥 1. It may be connected to
Iron Flame
In one of the announcement photos, the background featured Iron Flame.
This could mean the companion book takes place during the events of Iron Flame or reveals another perspective on those events.

😂 2. Ridoc is in it
Rebecca shared a photo of her niece’s reaction while reading the manuscript, and the page was about Ridoc.
Whatever he does… it seems to be something completely unexpected.

⚔️** 3. The missing Xaden & Garrick bonus chapte**r
About a year ago, Rebecca mentioned a bonus chapter that was never released.
The excerpt showed Xaden and Garrick talking about hunting wyvern, which many fans believe happens during Violet’s rescue mission in Iron Flame.
Could that finally appear in this book?

📜 4. Warrick’s journal
Around the time she was likely writing this project, Rebecca posted that she was rereading Iron Flame and shared a page from the journal, one of the First Six riders.
Was this simply a reread… or a hint?

🖤 5. July 1st – Liam’s death anniversary
On July 1st—the date Liam dies in Fourth Wing—Rebecca changed all of her social media profile pictures to black and white.
Her publisher also posted a memorial post for Liam that same day.
That timing feels intentional.

📅 6. The journal with twelve empty boxes
Two days later Rebecca posted a photo from her planner.
Next to Violet’s birthday were 12 empty checklist boxes, and the entire photo was in black and white.
Some current theories:
• Do the 12 boxes represent the missing 12 hours from onyx storm?
• Are they counting down to another reveal?
• Is the companion book formatted like a journal?
• Does the black-and-white theme represent mourning?
• Or is it connected to the Venin draining the world’s color and life?

🐉 7. “I know exactly WHO and what you are…”
That same day Rebecca posted Tairn’s quote:
“I know exactly WHO and what you are, Violet Sorrengail…”
The interesting part?
The word WHO was highlighted in gray while the rest of the quote was gold.
Maybe it’s just a design choice…

🎵 8. Alex Warren’s
Eternity
Rebecca said that Alex Warren’s song “Eternity” represents this book—but “not about who you think.”
One theory is that it represents Sloane grieving Liam.

9. The Taylor Swift connection?
Rebecca is a well-known Swiftie.
Taylor Swift has previously changed her profile pictures to black and white before major announcements.
Could Rebecca be using the same strategy before revealing the title or cover?
Who knows… but it definitely caught fans’ attention.

The biggest fan theories
📚 A collection of journals, letters, and historical documents from the Empyrean world.
⚔️ A companion story running alongside* Iron Flam*e from different POVs.
💌 Letters or writings from Liam, Lilith, Asher, Xaden, or other characters.
📖 More history about Navarre and the First Six.

My personal theory
I think this will be a memorial book dedicated to the characters we’ve lost and the heroes of the rebellion.
I also think it will finally show what happened during Violet’s rescue in Iron Flame, along with stories showing what Liam and the marked ones were doing behind the scenes for the rebellion.
There are simply too many clues pointing back to Iron Flame, hidden documents, journals, and remembrance for that to be a coincidence.

Did I miss any clues?
Have you noticed anything else Rebecca has hinted at?
I’d love to hear everyone else’s theories before we (hopefully) find out more soon. 🐉

Rainbow coming through the window on my onyx storm re-read

Feels very fitting after just wrapping up where they found the irids

u/Boysenberrypancake — 1 day ago

First time reader question.

I recently picked up the series and have made it to the second half of Onyx storm, so it may come up, but...

Y'all think Xaden Circumcised or tipped up.

I'm thinking of drawing a fan comic and need a consensus.

I'm thinking he's the cool hooded type, though I could be wrong.

Love y'all.

Xaden needs zoloft

… or weed. Rereading onyx storm and he’s complaining about how he can feel when there’s supposed to be emotions felt, but he wants to just “skate” over them bc its less messy and labor intensive to cope with. He’s so emotionally and mentally exhausted from anxiety that hes just letting the venin induced apathy take him. Someone give this man a bowl and a sunset in aretia, or meds. He’s literally rawdogging an entire war with no coping mechanisms whatsoever. Enough inner peace a day could keep the venin away.

Violet is going to end up doing exactly what Xaden did for her in Book 1

We know Rebecca Yarros said that in Book 4, Xaden is going to be in his "villain era", even saying to skip to Book 4 if they don't want to see him that way. This heavily implies he leaves Navarre's military behind and returns to the good side by Book 5 or turns good at the end of Book 4 as he would no longer be in his villain era.
But because he left as a Second Lieutenant, he will likely have to start completely over at the absolute bottom of the ranks if he rejoins. This timeline makes sense, especially since the Empyrean is set up to be the major overarching villain of the series, meaning Book 5 will likely be dedicated to them, not just the venin.
Meanwhile, we have already seen Violet step up into major leadership. When she gave her speeches in previous books, both Brennan and Xaden openly said she has massive leadership qualities and could easily be a duchess, a public speaker, or a political leader. It proves she has exactly what it takes to be in commanding roles once she graduates. However, we don't know how long Book 4 will span, but fourth wing covered an entire year. If Book 4 covers several months or features a significant time jump while Xaden is away, it gives Violet the perfect window to graduate, fight on the front lines, and rapidly climb the ranks.
If Xaden is actively working with the venin, the military will desperately want Violet on the front lines for her signet She would naturally take on a massive role trying to stop the war, wielding her raw power both for the kingdom and to save Xaden. Plus, as the war escalates, massive power vacuums will open up as high-ranking officials die in battle. Because Violet is a massive war asset, and if she takes on more leadership roles she could get promoted incredibly fast.
So if Xaden returns to the military in Book 5 as a baseline Second Lieutenant, violet could end up in Xaden’s chain of command.
Narratively, it would come full circle as Violet might do exactly what Xaden did for her in the beginning. She could request him to be placed directly under her command so she can personally vouch for his loyalty, mirroring how Xaden protected her when she first found out about Aretia and the venin.
This would also protect him from top tier leadership. If Generals like Melgren find out Xaden is venin (which Melgren easily could, if he sees a future battle where Xaden is fighting on the enemy side), they will want to execute him for treason. Violet pulling rank is the only way to shield him.
It would also be incredibly funny and satisfying. Xaden has always been the one with the power in the relationship, he held the secrets, knew things she didn't, and completely outranked her. Switching it so Xaden is suddenly in Violet's position, where she has to look out for him, tell him what to do, and order him where he can and cannot go,is the ultimate narrative reset. I’ve not seen anyone else discuss this but what do you guys think?

Tairn looking ridiculous?

I'm currently rereading iron flame, and got to the part where Violet needs cooling down to avoid burnout, and it's just given me such an absurd image.

Tairn is just stood in the river dunking her to cool down, but then he WALKS to the bank! Hes holding Violet in a claw, so unless hes squishing her into the ground with every step he's just hopping along on three legs until he can put her down.

I suppose he could be walking upright on his hind legs but even that seems silly

Why does this scene feel like he was being petty and jealous

This is the first scene where Xaden runs into Dain and Violet and I always got the impression that he was being petty and jealous although this is only chapter 5 so how could he? lol But why would he even care if two people he doesnt care about or even dislike were first loves? Through all 3 books he never showed any interest in anyone else's love life lol...is it possible he already felt bitter about them

"I already knew your parents are tight,” Xaden calls out, a cruel smile tilting his lips. “But do you two have to be so fucking obvious?” The few cadets who are still in the rotunda turn to look at us. “Let me guess,” Xaden continues, glancing between Dain and me. “Childhood friends? First loves, even?"

...... ..

“I expected you to do a better job of hiding where your affections lie, Aetos.” Xaden moves, walking down the steps. Shit. Shit. Shit. “Run, Violet,” Dain orders me. “Now.” I bolt.

Edit: This isn't a diss post I love jealous Xaden just wasn't sure if I can count this scene as one of those moments it would also show that he already had feelings for her this early on if he was...

These terrin and andarna earrings!

First off, no idea if I spelled their names right I've only listened to the audiobooks (lowk feel weird having spicy books on the shelf w/ family around)

Second, went to a random town market thing and found these hand made earrings! They have little dragon charms and a black & dark, shiny gold bead which perfectly matches violets dragons 💕

Funny thing is, I asked the lady if they were supposed to be fourth wing and she said she didn't know it existed lmao

Also idk if this is the right flair? Sorry if it isn't sonce I didn't make them

Irid’s

Is there a connection between Andarna being Irid & the cure / a way to kill venin?

As she was a in here black scales she could not kill Theophanie, but when she was irid in IF she could?

Is violet about to discover that through the irid’s there is a way to be able to cure Xaden, to be able to weaken the power of the venin?

Black & White Post

Hey!

So… I’ve been taking a break from posting for a while…. But RY’s instagram has me curious. I need the collective community’s brainpower to come up with some good wild and completely speculative theories.

Rebecca did two things. She changed her profile picture to black and white recently.

She posted a happy birthday message to Violet today.

- also in black and white

- with twelve blank check boxes.

- soundtracked by Taylor Swift (Out of the Woods)

She loves to tease us… she really does.

A few things I am circling as I consider what message she is attempting to send…

1.) color symbolism is so critical to this story
2.) the absence/fading of color is associated with less magic (hinted at while on isles)
3.) 12 is the number of missing hours.
4.) 12 is twice as much as six… which is an incredibly symbolic number in this story.

Okay, what else? What are we thinking?

How quickly things changed...

Xaden in FW till Ch 32: It was a mistake, Don't fall for me, I ain't falling for you, Stick to just sex, There's no future for us, Run away

Violet: I love you

Xaden: AWWW YOU SAID IT😍 THERE IS NO TAKE BACKSIES, Nope you love me even if you say you don't trust me or wanna be with me I'm not going anywhere, Refuse to be friends with benefits, You are mine we are gonna hold hands everywhere and get married ✨️

It's like the man's floodgate of love just broke down...

An AU Fanfic recommendation to all you who are hungry for good stories in this universe!

This is my first ever Reddit post, usually I just hang out but this was too good not to share when I see it isn’t already mentioned anywhere in this sub. ABSOLUTE FAVE new fanfic discovery is called “Book of Cardulo” by LightningLillys in Ao3. It’s pre- canon. Apart from some tweaks it is very respectful of canon also. It’s Imogen’s story starting in her first year at Basgiath post-Threshing. The story does eventually flow into Violet’s first year in later chapters. You see her first weapons runs, the early stages of her story with Garrick, you get to witness a different perspective of Xaden pre- Violet. It’s a WIP and has sensitive topics at the beginning (always read the tags before starting a new fic). It’s written beautifully; really is SUCH a good balm to the pain and hollow feeling I felt when finishing Onyx Storm and having to wait forever for the next book. It’s SO FUNNY and sharp and creative and gives such depth and color to a lot of the surrounding scenes from fourth wing, parts Violet wouldn’t have picked up on. There is dragon sass and violence and gossip and love and pining and it’s everything one could wish for! Couldn’t recommend it enough. I’m also selfishly hoping you all love it as much as I do and give some more energy to the writer to keep feeding us their amazing work! It’s currently on chapter 33 with no set final chapter and they posted recently! It’s too good for the little kudos and bookmark stats it has!

Enjoy!

P.S. Share any similar recs!
