Are basketball shoes actually good for lifting weights?

Hey everyone, I've been wondering about this for a while because I see a lot of nba and nfl player lift/train in kobes and KDs

I currently have 2 pairs of wow 10s one from 2023, one from 2025 and I'm wondering if I can just wear tthe older pair for weightlifting instead of buying a dedicated pair of lifting shoes or flat sneakers (like Chucks).

On one hand, basketball shoes have great ankle support, decent grip and decent stability. On the other hand, I know they usually have a lot of cushion and bounce, which might not be ideal when trying to push heavy weight through the floor on squats or deadlifts.

Has anyone here lifted regularly in basketball shoes? Did they hold up well, or did they mess with your stability?

Thanks.

Looking for 1440p OLED recommendations

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to upgrade to a 27" 1440p OLED monitor primarily for gaming and some work use, but I’m getting a bit overwhelmed by the options and panel generations.

I was initially looking at budget models like the MSI MAG 274QP X24, but I've heard its QD-OLED panel is heavily limited in brightness (200 nits SDR / 400 nits peak HDR) and struggles to deliver a proper HDR . I'd definitely prefer something that hits the standard 250 nits SDR and 1000 nits peak HDR.

Here is what I'm looking for:

  • Size/Res: 27" and 1440p.
  • Refresh Rate: Looking for high refresh rates (240Hz, 280Hz, or higher).
  • Environment: My room gets a bit bright. I know about the QD-OLED "raised blacks" purple tint in ambient light, but I'm trying to weigh that against WOLED text clarity/fringing issues.
  • 4-500 euros

(pc specs: 5070ti, i7-14700k)

Would love to hear your hands-on experiences. Is the text fringing on QD-OLED noticeably worse than the blurry text on WOLED panels? How do they actually hold up in a moderately lit room?

Any specific model recommendations or deals you'd point me toward right now? Thanks!

Is the MSI MAG 274QP QD-OLED X24 a good buy for €400? Worried about a bright room.

I’ve been shopping around for a 27-inch 1440p OLED monitor and just spotted the MSI MAG 274QP QD-OLED X24 on sale locally for exactly €400. On paper, getting a Gen 3 QD-OLED panel with 240Hz at this price feels like an absolute steal.

However, I have one major hesitation: my setup is in a room that gets a lot of natural sunlight during the day.

I know this monitor uses a QD-OLED panel, and I've read a lot of warnings about how ambient light can cause the blacks to lift and turn into a purple or dark grey haze because it lacks a polarizing layer.

For anyone who owns this specific monitor or a similar Gen 3 QD-OLED:

  1. How bad is the purple tint in a bright room? If I have blinds or curtains but light is still leaking in, does it completely ruin the contrast, or is it only noticeable if the sun is shining directly onto the screen?
  2. How is the text clarity? Since this uses a newer Samsung QD-OLED panel, has the text fringing issue from older generations been fully fixed? I plan to use this for a bit of daily browsing alongside gaming.
  3. Is €400 a "must-buy" price? Or should I spend an extra €50–€60 to grab a WOLED monitor (like the ASUS XG27AQDMG or Gigabyte GO27Q24G) instead to safely handle the daylight?

I'd love to save the cash and enjoy the punchy QD-OLED colors, but I don't want to regret it every time the sun comes out. Appreciate any feedback!

Best non-spiked shoe for sprinting?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for shoe recommendations for speed work on asphalt.

I regularly do sprint repeats (for offseason rugby conditioning, though I might switch to track fully). Since I'm strictly on pavement, traditional track spikes are out. Standard daily trainers feel too clunky and big, but old-school flat racing shoes don't have enough cushion.

Ideally, I need something lightweight that somewhat mimics a track spike aggressive, rigid (carbon/nylon plate or rods), and snappy, but with enough cushion to absorb the pavement shock.

I've looked at the Puma deviate 4. Appreciate any Ideas. Thanks!

Evo Sl replacement recommendations

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for a new speed/tempo shoe to replace my Evo SL (250km). I've absolutely loved the ride, but they're pretty beat up and I want to see what else is out there. I also currently use the vomero plus for easier runs

For reference, here is what I am looking for:

  • Use case: Interval sessions, tempo runs, some track sessions
  • Preferences: A LOT of cushioning, plated or unplated is fine

about me:

  • Height:181cm
  • weight:84kg
  • easy pace:5:30 - 6:00

Appreciate any suggestions!
