Guiraud

I’ve been saving this little bottle for quite some time, and from everything I’ve been reading, it has hit its peak maturity. While it isn’t a terribly valuable wine, it will be my first sip of Sauternes. So, as it’s a 1996, should I go ahead and open this sucker up?

Cam Winston

I was just watching some classic Frasier and lamenting the issues with Frasier 2.0 / Nu-Frasier / whatever it’s being called now... Anyway, I think they really could have done some great stuff had they brought Cam Winston back as a regular character. He really wasn’t utilized much in the original series, and I thought the rivalry dynamic between Frasier and Cam was always entertaining. Hell, they could have even had Cam move to Boston and unknowingly buy the building next to Frasier’s - maybe his mother could have passed away in the show; maybe the two of them could have bonded over losing their parents and they could have become friends - they could have parlayed that friendship into a competitive one, similar to what Niles and Frasier had. Just a thought. Seems like that could have been a way to bring back some of that awesome back and forth we all missed between Frasier and Niles. I guess it’s moot at this point… but on the outside chance someone does pick up the reboot for a season 3, this seems like a good potential move…

I thought I’d post some images of a mystery etching / aquatint that I’ve owned for about 20 years. Im very fond of it and I’m just curious if anyone here might have seen anything similar or might happen to recognize the artist’s signature. I’ve included closeups of the signature, the bizarre numbering scheme, the back side of the piece (including original poorly utilized mounting tape), and a closeup of the watermark present in the paper it was printed on.

I bought this piece, along with a dozen or so original Maitres de L’affiche lithographs from a gallery owner in Dallas roughly 20 years ago. The gallery had recently gone out of business, and I met up with the owner outside of his former gallery space and bought the pieces out of the trunk of his car. This particular piece was poorly matted and framed at the time, and the person I bought it from was unaware of who the artist was, but said he’d had it for a few years and had purchased it from an estate sale. I realize that given the odd signature and numbering, that this might just have to remain a mystery - but on the outside chance someone here has any ideas, here we are! Also - I posted this piece once before, but it was deleted by Reddit’s filters for some reason. So, if you’re seeing this for the second time, I apologize - no intention on my part to waste anyone’s time!

Just thought I’d float a hypothetical scenario to the good people of this subreddit regarding the way Season 7’s Niles and Daphne story played out, versus other possibilities that the writers and producers might have had, as well as fan ideas. Let’s say that season 7 ended with everything up until Niles and Daphne’s conversation in the hotel room remaining the same, and with Daphne going ahead with marrying Donny. How do you think they could have continued? Would they have, perhaps, had the series finale be Niles and Daphne marrying after both divorcing their spouses in a more organic way? I’d love to hear other’s thoughts on this, as well as any comments that writers and producers of the show might have made over the years alluding to other options…

It seems like the writers struggled a bit not having the “will they or won’t they” story to work with in those last several seasons, though the show was still very good. I think they could have done a lot with Mel’s continued poor treatment of Daphne and her controlling nature with Niles. It would have been interesting to see how they handled Donny - perhaps showing some of the same darker and more desperate sides of his personality. Or, perhaps the viewing public would have been turned off by stretching the story out. It would have been quite a letdown for Daphne’s marriage to Donny to go forward after everything that happened in season 7.

What say you all?

Has anyone else had issues with Sonesta’s ridiculous room deposit policies? I’m staying at one of their Simply Suites properties for business and have had to extend my stay on several occasions - each extension requires another deposit hold on my credit card and Sonesta makes no effort to release the previous holds. They just let the timer run out through your credit card company, tying up credit and continually racking up additional charges. I’ve stayed at plenty of competing properties and have never seen this kind of thing before. Any advice on how to either avoid the deposits or to get them to actually release the ones that have already been charged?
