Interested in Playing Bassoon

I’m currently a high schooler and play tuba, bass trombone, euphonium, and trumpet, and the music program I’m in has a lack of double reeds. Now this gets to my questions

  1. Is playing bassoon fun?
I’ve played tenor sax and flute before, but disliked both, will I dislike bassoon?

  2. Is there anything I should know?
I’m very interested in being a band director later in life, so I know how to take care of a bassoon, but is there any insider knowledge or really big things I should know about?

  3. What bassoon, bocal, and reed should I use?
I would really like to develop a warm and nice tone, so are there any specific bocals or reeds that could help with that?

  4. Finally, are there any benefits to playing bassoon?

Just really quick, I’m planning just to play bassoon in an orchestral setting.

Thanks!
