1st gen weight reduction and cooling mod

Took my hood off to sand, bondo the rust holes, and repaint, had to drive to church like this. Never had lower intake temps...

Bare metal clear coat

Had some light rust and baked on ppf on my 98 crv, sanding down to repaint and I got to bare metal quick. Now I kinda want to sand it down to bare metal and clear coat it, would be a nice look. It is only the front 8" of the hood so it wont (shouldn't) blind me, thoughts?

edit: tremclad black was my original plan, can do if the bare metal wont work / is a bad idea

Hood spacers on NA cars (?)

Looking into hood spacers, my 98 crv needed a new thermostat, current one works but is stamped for 82c rather than 78c. She flows fine, but I'd quite like to keep some heat off the intake and give her some extra breathing ability.

There seems to be 3 groups online: 1, "RiCeR!", 2, "fix your cooling problem, dont put a band aid over it" when I already have fixed it (2nd thermo (1st went bad)) and just want a straight answer, 3, people who have tried them for heatsoak on top mounted intercooler cars like mazdaspeed3's and wrx's, who have actual data about coolant, intake and intercooler temps.

Problem is, I'm driving naturally aspirated, the data on how the spacers effect the intercooler ducting doesn't help me. And the videos I have seen about spacers are either youtuber vlogs rather than actual dedicated videos, or they install them and dont actually test them.

I understand that I might get a cowl hood effect, more air in through the back rather than a venting effect. Looking at options, but this is very reversible, and can be undone for snowy periods, and is much cheaper and easier to (un)install and store than a second hood with vents.

I want to ask the people of reddit their opinions / data on hood spacers for naturally aspirated.

What was the best DIY mod you have done?

Let me know your easiest, your most revolutionary, your cheapest / free, most personal DIY / hommade mods, or a mod you have done that you never seen anyone else do before. Looking for some fun ideas.

I removed the bolt sleeves on my 98 crv, was able to snug up the shifter more and remove 90% of the slop.

Looking to vent some air from the hood of my 98' crv. Just want to keep her cooler in the summer, and I am repainting the hood soon anyways to prevent rusting. Was looking at throwing a hood scoop backwards over a cutout to keep snow and rain off it while still allowing air out / in (prob end up with cowl induction). Was also looking at hood spacers, cheaper, quicker, cleaner, simpler, and reversible. Can space it in summer, and drop it back in winter.

Most of the talk online seems to be from people with turbo setups (wrx's and mazdaspeeds) mentioning spacers don't do jack with heat soak. And any DIY hood scoop vidoes (amazon scoops all look cheap and plasticy), are just "I bought this, watch me install it" rather than from scratch sheet metal kinda thing (which is what I'm considering so I can do what I want with it).

Any idea's or recommendations? Car is rough round the edges (fender rust (repairing soon), slight hail dents on roof and hood, 20 yo aftermarket roof rack), so it doesn't have to look amazing, but I'd like it to look well done.

I do not have any kind of cooling issue of any kind, don't tell me to fix anything.
