Criticism of the moderation on the main GuildWars3 subreddit

Has anybody else noticed that every post on main 'GuildWars3' subreddit has to be approved by a single moderator? It's a problem that the mod over there refuses to address.

Not only is official news late because it needs preapproval, but a single moderator is controlling the narrative, meaning any posts they don't like or disagree with could be removed without anyone's knowledge. You can't have community growth or true discussion when a single moderator debilitates a subreddit in this way.

I've engaged with this moderator one to one, and they actively shut down any discussion or criticism regarding changing their rules. Their behavior has been constructively criticised by multiple people over at the 'GuildWars3' subreddit (as well as on the 'mmorpg' subreddit), but you'll see that most of their comments simply dodge the question: why does every post on the main 'GuildWars3' subreddit need preapproval?

It's gotten to the point that fringe subreddits such as 'gw3sub' are becoming more popular as the moderator of 'GuildWars3' is actively hamstringing their own comminity from growth and genuine discussion.

I think Blackhand wanted an honorable death in the movie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0niE8EBjko

After rewatching the Makgora of Lothar vs Blackhand, I got the feeling that Blackhand actually wanted to die honorably. When Lothar pulled out his griffon, Blackhand had the opportunity to kill him. Instead, he gave him a chance to fight through Makgora. I also think Blackhand was affected by watching Durotan die. He saw Guldan completely disregard the honor of Makgora, and maybe he didn't want to keep doing Guldan's dirty work. In the end, choosing to fight Lothar and die by his blade may have been Blackhand's last way of choosing honor over Guldan.

Permission to Repost. Let's Think About This Guild Wars Community.

(Reposting to avoid Reddit violation as I forgot to erase some information.)

The community should seriously think about what happened over there.

A Guild Wars 3 post from the founder of this sub was removed from a very large sub. I’m not going to name the sub to avoid Reddit violations and for us to be on the safe side. But the bigger issue is what happens when a small group of moderators gets so much control over what an entire community is allowed to discuss.

When moderators can simply decide what stays up and what disappears, it can start feeling less like community moderation and more like an overlord system where the people running the subreddit decide what the “acceptable” conversation is.

This is exactly why I think building new Guild Wars 3 communities is important. We shouldn’t wait for someone else to give us permission to talk about the game. We can build our own spaces.

I actually created r/GuildWarsDrama for this reason. If discussions about moderation, controversies, community disputes, removed posts, or other issues aren't welcome over other subs, then there’s a place where those topics can be discussed openly.

The point is about having alternatives. Let's not put the entire Guild Wars community discussion in the hands of Reddit Moderators. They should listen to the community and not the other way around. Let us build, participate, and create our own spaces.

Unlike its predecessor Guild Wars 2, which never launched in most Asian markets, Guild Wars 3 will be serviced across Asia through NC's "PURPLE" platform. Service Expected in Second Half of 2028.

NCSoft has officially confirmed the Asia launch of "Guild Wars 3," the MMORPG being developed by its North American subsidiary ArenaNet. The game is expected to launch in the second half of 2028 and will be available on PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5, with Korean language support included. Unlike its predecessor Guild Wars 2, which never launched in most Asian markets, the new title will be serviced across Asia through NCSoft's "PURPLE" platform. Since its first reveal at SGF 2026, the game has generated significant anticipation, reaching second place on the Steam wishlist. The Guild Wars franchise community now totals 30 million users. NCSoft has lent ArenaNet 120.7 billion won (approximately $85.5 million) to support development, with alpha and beta testing planned for next year.

NCSoft (036570.KQ) has officially confirmed the Asia launch of "Guild Wars 3," the blockbuster MMORPG being developed by its North American subsidiary ArenaNet. The game is widely expected to launch in the second half of 2028.

During NCSoft's second-quarter 2026 earnings conference call on the 11th, co-CEO Park Byung-moo stated, "Guild Wars 3 stands alongside World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV as one of the three major MMORPGs in Western markets," adding that "we plan to launch it in Asia through NCSoft's PURPLE platform."

This marks a sharp departure from the approach taken with its predecessor, Guild Wars 2, which was only serviced in North America, Europe, and China, never receiving an official launch in most Asian regions, including South Korea. Even after Guild Wars 2 arrived on Steam in 2023, it did not support Korean, making access difficult for domestic users.

Guild Wars 3 has drawn intense interest since its first reveal at Summer Game Fest (SGF) 2026 in June. Park noted, "When Guild Wars 3 was announced, it made a splash by claiming second place on the Steam wishlist, surpassing several major titles," emphasizing that "the community is extremely robust, with the Guild Wars franchise community now reaching 30 million users." At the time of Guild Wars 2's launch, the community numbered around 6 million users.

The game is set in a world approximately 1,000 years before the original Guild Wars. Players will explore a vibrant world through a combat system optimized for both console controllers and keyboard setups, along with the character customization and progression systems characteristic of the Guild Wars series.

Guild Wars 3 will be serviced globally across PC online, Steam, and PlayStation 5 platforms. This marks the first time a Guild Wars title will launch on a console platform. Korean is planned as one of the supported languages, significantly improving accessibility for domestic users.

Regarding the launch timeline, Park said, "Starting this year, we are in the phase of deploying substantial resources to prepare content ahead of the launch," adding, "I believe alpha and beta testing will take place sometime next year." He further noted, "You can estimate the launch timing by looking at when the loan maturity date for ArenaNet expires." NCSoft disclosed on the same day that it is lending ArenaNet 120.7 billion won (approximately $85.5 million) to support the development and launch of Guild Wars 3, with a maturity date of May 31, 2028. Based on this, industry observers are projecting a launch in the second half of 2028.

Colin Johanson, ArenaNet studio head and director of Guild Wars 3, said, "Guild Wars 3 will be a new turning point not only for the Guild Wars series but for the MMORPG genre as a whole. Our goal is to deliver a new gaming experience through an online world built with realism, immersion, and innovation, and to present a space where we can create new stories together with the player community."

Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about potential cannibalization with the existing Guild Wars 2 following the launch of Guild Wars 3. Addressing this, Park explained, "After the Guild Wars 3 announcement, Guild Wars 2's monthly active users and revenue reached their highest levels in the past three years. Even when Guild Wars 3 launches, Guild Wars 2 will continue as a separate IP with ongoing live service, and we are developing them so players can enjoy both."

For NCSoft, this represents a crucial opportunity to diversify its revenue structure, which has been heavily concentrated on the Lineage series. If Guild Wars 3 successfully establishes itself in the Asian market, it is expected to strengthen NCSoft's global publishing capabilities and expand revenue across Asia, following North America and Europe. In particular, the strategy of debuting on console platforms for the first time while simultaneously launching on Steam is expected to further broaden the global player base.

Thank you for making this alternative space

I think it’s healthy to have more Guild Wars subs that aren’t so heavily moderated. For a decade, it felt like ArenaNet has been monopolizing and controlling influence over Reddit space surrounding this franchise to the point where you sometimes have to wonder how independent the community discussion really is. Whether that’s intentional or not, having an alternative sub is a good thing. More independent subs mean more room for different opinions and less chance of one side controlling the conversation.
