Gaps in knowledge

Hi all! So I survived a very tumultuous childhood and find that as an adult, I still have gaps in my knowledge. My main area of concern is to be a better speaker and to be a more well rounded person in general. I'd also like to learn more about school topics and tried homeschooling which was honestly quite boring but I think I may need to go back to again.

Is there any way that I could "catch up" or have knowledge that others my age (40) do? I struggle with emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication so I'm looking for something to help with these areas specifically. I'd also like to find great orators on YouTube if possible. Any suggestions?

How to be well rounded

I read somewhere that you need one intellectual hobby, one physical hobby, etc but I still feel imbalanced. I feel like my brain has a limit to what it can learn and I feel like I have a hard time retaining anything. As my post suggests, I'm looking to be a well rounded person and have no idea how to do that. I also struggle with knowing myself so there is also that. I'm also looking to become more worldly. Not sure how I would go about this. Any tips is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

How to have talking points on a daily basis

I usually find myself responding with 'yeah' or 'uh huh' and I don't really know how to contribute intellectually to a conversation. I ask questions but I would like to find talking points to discuss on a daily basis that isn't just news related. Thanks for your help

Iwtl What kinds of interesting topics to learn at home

Hi there.

I don't have a lot of money to spend on hobbies but I'm wondering what types of content to consume so that I can become smarter. I read the news a lot and watch YouTube but I cannot really retain much. I learn a language now so that's covered. I read but can't retain it sometimes. Learning about new and interesting things seem like it is lost on me. I don't know where to accumulate knowledge and how to without feeling like it is so boring. I tried Economics but it was too dry for me. I also tried homeschooling myself but that gets boring too. I'm just looking for a spark to pique my interest so I can grow and branch out.

Thank you for any helpful advice!!

I cannot afford a therapist right now and was wondering if journaling can heal childhood trauma. I read that journaling can be a powerful as taking an antidepressant, so I've been looking in how to journal more effectively. Any thoughts on this? I really need to heal my deeply wounded inner child.

Looking for hobbies that helps with critical thinking that I can do at home and that I can do through YouTube or otherwise. I feel stagnant and want to grow. I also feel like I am not sharp as I once in was. Currently, I'm learning a language so that box is checked. I am also reading a fiction book, so reading is also checked. I tried coding but didn't like it. Please help. Thanks for any suggestions!

Looking for some guidance about what subjects to study to become smarter to fix my stunted growth emotionally. I also want to be well rounded and don't know how to become that way. I have an arrested development from trauma growing up (I have a mentality of 16 year old with stunted development), so I am trying to catch up with my peers (I'm 39). I don't know if that's possible at point but I am just looking to be proficient in subjects that I could talk to others about and to learn about topics that will enrich my life on a daily basis. I wish I could look at self help stuff but I can't due to an addiction to it, so I have to just study regular subjects but hopefully in an entertaining way (YouTube university).

Does anyone have any ideas to help me grow? I feel stagnant about what topics to study. I tried Economics even though I like it, it got dry after a while. I'm trying homeschooling but that takes a while. I'm looking for some YouTube videos I can watch on a daily basis and some books to read (non self help) that will help me grow.

Thanks in advance!!
