DC getting backlash for queerbaiting with straight characters during pride

This isn't the first time DC has gotten backlash for using queerbait during pride month. A few years before they got backlash for putting Nightwing on several pride covers with the bisexual flag despite never confirming him as bisexual while canon bisexual characters like Wonder Woman and Cat Woman never got solo bisexual pride covers.

This post on instagram got backlash from fans for queerbaiting with straight characters who are currently married/in a relationship. Fans called them out for neglecting canon queer pairings like Midnighter and Apollo and canon queer characters like Wonder Woman while promoting straight people during pride as if they were a queer couple. Do you guys think the backlash is justified?

Imagine the fandoms reaction if this was said by a male character

especially if this was said about Spencer by someone like Sam. The fandom would have the biggest melt down ever. I mean just look at the outrage that happened with the Sam Spencer screenshot on patreon before the episode even released for most people. ONC and Jared would get even more death threats than usual and people would accuse them of supporting rape culture. And I'm not saying people should be outraged at Ara or this scene because it's clearly supposed to be a comedic scene. I'm just glad ONC decided to do this plotline with 2 women instead of men because otherwise people would have tried to cancel the show on social media again.

What do you guys think about this take?

This basically what I've been thinking since ep8 released and after seeing the fandoms reaction to Spencer interacting with Rosa but it's been even more apparent with the reactions to ep11.

Do you guys agree with this take?

I definitely agree with it because Ara also made a lot of weird sexual innuendos to Nura and the fandom celebrated it with only a few people finding it weird. Meanwhile when it came to Sam, before the trailer or episode even released, people were calling him all sorts of names based alone on the picture of him standing behind a blushing Spencer. The double standards in this fandom really make me want to drop the show.

Why do people act like Rina Kents MM books are uniquely misgoynyistic comapred to her MF books?

Something I‘ve noticed not only on this subreddit but on other social media platforms as well is that people seem more enraged about the misogyny in Rinas MM books than her MF books. The only other Rina Kent book I have seen get as much hate and criticism for misogyny as her MM books is God of Malice but I think most of the hate for that book comes from non dark romance readers whose first experience with dark romance was God of Malice.

Whenever discussions about misogyny and mistreatment of women in Rinas books come up people mostly seem to mention characters like Clara, Danika and Cherry despite the MMCs in the MF books also having ex girlfriends they mistreated just as horribly. Not to mention the misogyny and mistreatment the FMCs themselves faced from the MLs. Like people willI mention Brandon pulling Claras hair as the ultimate act of misogyny but Jeremy almost choking Cecily to death out of jealousy (I’m not talking about the choking while they have sex) and pulling her hair so much she got damage to her scalp gets defended constantly.

MMCs like Kirill get praised high to heaven for his treatment of Sasha while the way he ruined his ex finances life and his misogynistic tendencies towards other women like Rai gets brushed under the rug. What Kirill did to Kristina is much worse than how Vaughn neglected and ended his relationship with Danika but I only see one book being called out for using a woman in a misogynistic way to further a relationship and it’s not the monster trilogy.

It seems like for some reason people only want to call out misogyny when it comes to Rina Kents MM books when it is prevalent in ALL of her books. I would even argue it’s worse in her MF books and I’ll use Sweet Venom, Rinas most recent MF book, as an example. The FMCs mother was a drug addicted prostitute who let her daughter get sexually abused, the MMCs mother was a mentally unstable woman and the main villain of the book was literally the wife of the FMCs father who got cheated on. The FMCs father being shown in a sympathetic light despite being a cheater and his wife playing into the bitter vengeful wife role is some of the most misogynistic writing from Rina Kent I’ve seen yet the only misogyny people seem to recognise from Sweet Venom and the Vipers series in general is Preston’s behaviour towards Dahlia.

It’s very strange that so many people on this subreddit make Rinas MM books out to be uniquely misogynistic when misogyny has been her MO from the start of her career (and for most of dark romance to be honest). For every misogynistic situation in any of her MM books you will find at least one identical situation in her MF books if not several. I think we can all agree that both the MM and MF books from Rina Kent are riddled with misogyny so I don’t understand this sudden agenda from the people who only read/enjoy her MF books trying to cancel Rina for the portrayal of women in her MM books.

I genuinely don’t understand what you guys are trying to achieve with this constant discourse and don’t try to come with the argument that people deny the misogyny in her MM books because this can be easily disproven. Ever since Kiss the Villain came out over half the discourse about Rina has been surrounding the misogyny in her MM books to the point it has overshadowed the misogyny discourse surrounding her MF books. These days it feels like the only time people mention misogyny in direct link to her MF books is when discussing this fandoms abhorrent behaviour towards the FMCs (which I completely agree with). It just feels like agenda posting when I see someone on this subreddit who only makes posts about misogyny about Rinas MM books or only complains about them in general.
