Housing in Lincoln Nebraska

Hello everyone, I will be starting my PhD in Physics at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) this August and I am currently looking for housing in Lincoln. A bit about me: I am a quiet, clean, and responsible student who will be focused on research in physics. I prefer a peaceful living environment suitable for studying. I’m open to shared apartments/rooms or private studios within a reasonable budget. Details: Move-in: August (flexible within the month) Duration: Long-term (PhD duration) Preferred: Near UNL campus or well-connected by public transport Budget: Flexible depending on accommodation If you know of any available rooms, apartments, or are looking for a roommate, please feel free to comment or message me. Thank you very much for your help!

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a trip from Rome, Italy to Omaha, Nebraska and wanted some advice on the best route. I’ve noticed there are no direct flights, so I’ll have to connect somewhere in the US (or maybe Europe first).

From what I’ve seen so far, routes through Chicago, Detroit, or Minneapolis seem common. I’m mainly looking for:

  • Smooth connection (not too stressful)
  • Reasonable total travel time (~14–16h ideally)
  • Safe layover for US immigration

Would you recommend going through Chicago (ORD), or is another hub better in your experience? Also, how much layover time would you suggest for a first entry into the US?

Any tips about airlines, airports, or things to avoid would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance 🙌

I wanted to share my results and get some honest feedback on where I might be falling short.

Results:
Rejected: MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, UVA, PSU
Accepted: UNL, Purdue (2nd round)
Waiting: UTK

Profile:

  • BS GPA: 25/30
  • MS GPA: 27/30 (with thesis research)
  • Research/Summer Programs: UC Berkeley, NASA, Max Planck, INFN
  • Field: Physics

I feel like I have strong research exposure, especially internationally, but I’m wondering if my main weakness is recommendation letters, particularly not having a very strong advisor LOR.
