24 with no pension, can I set one up myself?
Hi,
I’m 24f living at home with my family. I was working full-time for the past year (two part-time jobs), but had to leave one of them. I now work two days a week in comms/media and don’t get a pension for this. At first, I didn’t think much of it/never cared until I heard people talking about how important it is to have a pension and how it’s specifically beneficial starting one in your 20s. Now I’m overthinking and wondering if I’ve f*cked myself over.
I opted out of the pension at the job that I left because I didn’t unfortunately see the point. My current role is a small business so they don’t have a pension set up.
I am currently looking for a full-time role in the media sector - and naturally, most are in London. For the past year, I’ve been building my savings/ISAs because I’m hoping to move out this year once I find another role(and definitely not opt out 😞)
I have 5k in my lifetime ISA, 5.5k in savings and 2.8k in my cash ISA. This is all in the Moneybox app
But as of now, is there a way to set up a pension myself, and how much should I put in? Or should I wait until the end of this year (if I don’t find another full-time role)? I’m not money literate at all, but I’m really trying to be. Advice would be really helpful, thank you!
