A disappointing final season - Review

I want to share my thoughts on season 8 and what they could've done better. (This review doesn't include what I liked about season 8 because this post is already very long).

The Faith storyline wasted so much screen time. Fergus' death felt unnecessary and unimpactful. The scene where William found out Lord John was gay was unnecessary.

I understand the writers needed something to get William to come to the ridge to reconcile with Jamie before going to rescue Lord John but they couldn't just say he came to see Brianna?

Season 7 should've included the Dearest Deadeye letter instead of having it as a dedication in the book. When I watched episode 801, I saw the "Dearest Deadeye" dedication and knew it was Brianna because she's a good shot and we know (and Jamie knows) Frank taught her how to shoot. Jamie could've just asked Claire/Brianna what "deadeye" meant.

It's lovely the cast came back to do season 8 but 10 episodes was extremely unrealistic to finish up a story with so many plotlines. I think they should have done 20 episodes for season 7 (if that's doable?) and just ended it with "Hello the house".

Or...I truly believe if they didn't do the Faith storyline, they would've had time for the storylines that actually mattered.

Jamie's reconciliation with William and rescuing Lord John from kidnapping will not be until Book 10. I understand the showrunners wanted to end the show properly, hence why they included it in the show.

I understand adapting a 900 page book for TV isn't easy. There just wasn't enough time to include everything and do the story justice. 😢

Does anyone else feel this way about William?

I honestly hate that Jamie had a child with another woman even though I know he was blackmailed and Claire was gone for 20 years.

Because the show started with Claire as the narrator, I suppose I see things through her eyes or feel jealous for her. I feel like she didn't get closure in some cases. For example, there is a scene in season 4 where John tells Claire Jamie offered himself to him in exchange for John taking care of William. It would have been nice to see Jamie and Claire talk about it in the show because she was visibly upset when John told her this and we never hear of it again.

I like William's character and the scenes he has with Brianna are sweet. The scenes with William and Brianna or William, Jamie or Lord John, I dislike. It's a part of Outlander I don't enjoy.

Sorry if this post is silly or irrational but that's how I feel. Can anyone else relate? Were you disappointed when Jamie had a son and then learnt to like that part of the story?
