I was reading a post about a French woman's experience in Australia, and she mentioned this:

>In Australia, people smiled at me, made comments, and started conversations without hesitation. In France, I'm used to strangers avoiding eye contact.

It got me wondering - what's it like trying to make new friends in Australia? Does the fact that strangers will start a conversation without hesitation make it easier to connect with people and develop a friendship?

I imagine there's no universal answer to this, but I'm just curious what peoples experience has been with this
