Pain after extraction and traumatic nerve damage
I’m a 51 yr old female. I had an infected failed root canal extracted 5 weeks ago for #19. On the other side I have nerve damage in the mental nerve/chin area with chronic swelling, burning and it’s triggered by pressure on the front teeth on that side and touch to the gum tissue along that area. It was from a break from a really bad car accident. 17 yrs ago. Still have ptsd. I was sedated for the extraction on 19. I also had a bone graft at the same time. I woke up and the other with the nerve damage was so bad, it hasn’t hurt that bad since the initial surgery to the break. I don’t know what happened but they didn’t even touch that side. It eventually calmed down to almost baseline but not quite. I need to get a root canal on that same side. I was told the tooth was cracked. I forgot which tooth it is, think it’s a premolar but it’s just outside of the nerve damaged area. I’m scared to get more work done. Is there anything to be concerned about? Also 5 weeks ago when I got 19 extracted and the bone graft, I had neck tension really bad and it’s gotten better but still hurts and at times my ear hurts, also still get pain along the jaw and had continuous burning in my chin and mental nerve area on the extraction side for the first few weeks and not it’s intermittent throughout the day. Some days I think I’m finally healing but then it flares again. Also seem to have tenderness in my neck just a couple inches below my ear. The first couple weeks it felt like a not or swollen gland but the swelling seems to have gone down a bit but still hurts and it’s all made my tinnitus worse. Any guidance would be appreciated. Oral surgeon just gaslights me saying everything looks fine and maybe it’s my age, or maybe I have a condition that keeps me from healing, or maybe d I just have migraines. Nothing to try to help me. He’s given me steroids for a week and 2 different antibiotics but that was in the first few weeks.
