Should I learn Rhino in 2026?

So, a friend of mine working in computational design asking me to learn rhino and join him. I am a software engineer myself. I had some basic 3d modeling with blender. I did some search before writing this post and found how rhino's work, ...etc. Now I am stuck does it really matter in 2026?

Did you guys really get a job out of it?

Let me first do a quick introduction. I am a senior software engineer working in EDA field. I got attached to game engines for like 2 years I think and really started my engine year and half ago. I posted some posts before about my progress like my UI framework, my progress in PBR,...etc. I got even further like GI, a real editor that's built on to top of my own framework. Real ECS reflection,..etc. (Some parts like ECS was developing in some free time).

> I am working from home that's why I have a bit more time to work on the engine

The thing is I really wanna be at a level that I work as an engine developer at some AAA company. what does it take to do? I will post the video maybe next week or something but it support most features I have even felt like it needs but I know making it for the public to use is nearly impossible no one will leave unity or unreal for unfinished editor so I will take it as a golden ticket to enter the AAA industry. what to do, where to start,...etc.

Creative voxel worlds

That may be the weirdest question that has been asked in this subreddit so far. I love voxels but voxel worlds feels repetitive its either about destruction or minecraft clones with micro voxels. So, did anyone see or implementing something unique with voxels. I am looking for inspirations tbh

How to render good looking text for UI components

Three days ago, I wrote an article about how to render good looking rectangles for UI components that can look good and optimized for a game engine. Some people asked me to talk about text rendering as well. So, I wrote https://alielmorsy.github.io/how-to-render-beautiful-text-for-your-ui-library/

It took like 1.5 days of writing just to get it right. Hope you guys love it

Updating my UI framework to the maximum

Remember me? Some days ago I uploaded my prototype of Lumora which is a UI framework for my game engine (If it turned good enough I will make it standalone. It's decoupled but depend on my RHI for rendering). Anyway, I have added animations, enhanced docking, Fixed more than 13 bugs in the Flexbox solver. It became much stable now specially with absolute stuff and much much more

I cannot join ranked

For some reason When I join ranked it get stuck like this . Then, I get kicked out with Server Connection Timeout. I press reconnect over and over and the same thing happen

Finally did a UI framework for my game engine

Year ago I built my own Flexbox Layout Calculator I called it Masharif.

Since then, I have been trying to build a UI framework for it. I built it in my CPP as my game engine built with CPP. It's not perfect I know but It has been a great progress for me specially with all these features and rendering. It uses GPU to render. It also support a painter similar to QT to create custom widgets,...etc.

I am using React style to build widgets as I like such designs:

Elem ChartPanel_() {
    return Box({.width = Expand, .height = Expand,
                .padding = Spacing::All(14.f), .fill = kBg1, .align = Stretch},
        Column({.gap = 10.f, .cross = Stretch, .width = Expand, .height = Expand},
            Row({.cross = Center},
                Column({.gap = 2.f, .cross = Start},
                    Text("Weekly Performance",
                         {.size = 14.f, .bold = true, .color = kText}),
                    Text("Daily sessions \xE2\x80\x94 hover to inspect",
                         {.size = 11.f, .color = kTextSub})),
                Spacer(),
                Box({.padding = Spacing::Symmetric(4.f, 10.f), .radius = 10.f,
                     .fill = kGreen.WithAlpha(22)},
                    Text("LIVE", {.size = 11.f, .bold = true, .color = kGreen}))),
            Divider({.color = kBorder}),
            LineChart()));
}

It's built on reconciling but I took different approach

What do you guys think? Any suggestions? Everything is home made. Rendering is done with opengl for demos. I will use my RHI on the integration. FYI, It's retained not immediate. So, I will use it for both the Editor and in game rendering

Do companies make AI bad on purpose

I believe everyone have seen Fable 5 and how good it is. But I feel like opus 4.8 on High thinking became worse?

Do yall think Anthropic made Opus bad on purpose by quantizing it? Because no way people starting see Opus bad out of sudden!

EDIT: I tested fable only today for a single task that Opus failed to do. That seems unfair, but Opus did something like that week ago or something

Why did your create your game engine or what was the motiviation?

Hi,

So over the last 10 months I have been working on my game engine. I had no experience in Rendering I learnt from absolute stretch. i am a regular software engineer which TBH helped me in every other direction outside rendering like I had good experience with CPP and systems in general. I can say I did a good job in my game engine specially with PBR,...etc.

Disclaimer: People will hate the next part Yes I used AI a lot I didn't vibe code I just made it doing small tasks, refactoring for me (Structured refactoring not just refactor me that file).

And I believe I reached a good state:

  • I did a shading language that's compiled internally to hlsl and from hlsl o SPIRV. Gave it a loooot of features I call it CSL.

I decided to chill on features and build RHI for the engine because vk was going around specially in render passes (yes I built a fully Render Graph and even wrote an article about that). But after reaching such state I felt like man why am I dong this I am not even good with creating games neither 3d objects. I remember I started that project because someone told me you cannot build a general game engine he said its impossible. I reached a state where impossible is just a word on paper but now? I am dead I don't see any motivations to continue but I love this project because over the last 5 years of being a software engineer that's the longest project I have been working on.

I am not trying to flex trust me. I am just stuck. The engine was good in rendering specially after I built this automatic component rendering thing with builtin reflection system for ECS components but from this moment I fucked up everything and drilling the engine from the inside out which led to nothing working of course
