Sprinkler burst in unit above me, water damage in my apartment, power out, and no communication from complex
[US -GA] Yesterday I came home from work to find water dripping from my ceiling onto my stuff, visible ceiling damage, scratches on my floors from equipment, and no power.
Called the emergency maintenance line -- no answer. Left a voicemail. Ran into a maintenance guy in the hallway, told him what was going on, he said someone would come. Eventually a third-party restoration crew showed up, knocked on my door, and told me a sprinkler had burst in the unit above mine. They said they'd be putting industrial fans and dehumidifiers in my apartment, it would be very loud, and asked if I had somewhere to stay.
My complex never called me. Never emailed me. Never knocked on my door. I only found out what happened because a random restoration crew told me. I had to go stay at my sister's because no one from management ever got back to me. No one responded to the emergency call.
Today I stopped by my apartment & big fans and dehumidifiers everywhere. Called the office around 4 PM. No answer. Left another voicemail. Still no communication from anyone at the complex.
I have photos of everything. I'm in Georgia (Atlanta). I'm about to send an email to my apartment but wanted advice on if there's anything in particular I should request/ask? Has anyone dealt with something like this? What should I be pushing for?
TLDR: Sprinkler burst upstairs, came home to water damage and no power. Complex never contacted me — I had to find out from a third-party crew and go stay at my sister's. Two days later, still zero communication despite two voicemails. Have photos. In Atlanta. What are my rights and what should I demand?
