Illuminating Hope

Illuminating Hope

I wanted to offer some hope that you can get away from Eversource and take control back. We have a large solar system which we lease. It’s a flat rate around $144 per month and we generate more than we use during peak production times.

What that means is we don’t pay Eversource from April through November with our first bill coming due in December, and it’s usually a partial bill due to left over power generation.

For perspective, we have a 2,200 sq ft wood sided house with ok windows and is cooled with central air, not mini splits. The previous owner did have a thick layer of insulation blown into the attic which has really helped.

This isn’t meant as a brag or anything silly and I understand not everyone owns a home or is able to add solar. But I wanted to share that there are options worth exploring to keep your carbon footprint and energy costs in check.

Wacky Ratio?

So this morning I had a total brain fart. I ground 20g of a Costa Rican medium roast and while intending to put to 320g of water, I went to 500g. As I was pouring my third pour I realized my error but decided to keep going and see how it came out a 25:1 ratio.

I was shocked - it was really quite good. More like a dinner style coffee with a thin body but not bitter or over extracted like I’d thought.

Anyone else get surprised by a happy accident?
