I didn’t think I deserved a penny of government help when I ETS’d.

But I applied anyways because I was dirt broke and in constant agony anyways so I just said f it I will just see what happens.

Got all of my documentation from the Army first, along with recent de-mob medical paperwork.

Sent it all in with all my claims at the same time.

Sat for a while and hated myself for applying, then I got sick from exposures, intense surgery because I could barely walk, and had teeth fall apart in my mouth due to army dentists.

I’ve seen lost a LOT of weight very rapidly and have to get more surgeries.

But I am damn happy seeing what situation I would be in without the VA.

Yes they suck,
Yes, the process can be a long grind,
But do not view it as a pity option like I did even though I went through with it anyways.

I did have to do a congressional before I applied because the Army sent my records to the shadow realm.

Get your ducks in a row then apply and do follow up.

Some care that may save your life or stop you from suck starting a Smith & Wesson is better than none.

If you’re the man I was when I first applied, you have a misguided point of view that is not benefiting other SM’s by somehow getting them better care, because your perceived hand is NOT in their pockets stealing from them.

You’re harming yourself and others that you love as much if not LESS than they do YOU by refusing care, if any at all.

Be grateful that you have access to something rather than nothing, because the big green weenie rarely arrives by appointment that you set.

Your time in uniform may have ended, but your body still received damage that will catch up.

Be the tortoise not the hare because everyone gets old, I’m trying to be there in as much capacity as I can for my future kids and loved ones,

You should too.
You deserve it.
