Hard time getting housing

Hello Tacoma, I am moving to the area (or trying to) to be with my partner! I am moving from Colorado and she is already living and working in Tacoma. We have had a hard time finding and getting approved for housing in Tacoma. Basically we’ve applied to a couple spots and lost them to other applicants for no reason other than they had applied before us. This last place we applied to on the other hand, reached out and asked for proof of employment in Tacoma, a valid request just not something I have yet. I am a carpenter and have better luck finding work physically when I am there in location than online and that has proven to be a challenge for our housing situation. I have some temporary work through family and friends to pay the bills for the first couple months while I look for something more long term but if we can’t get a place to rent to us since I don’t have a job…..well I’ll never be able to move and get a job!!!

We’re looking for a 2-3 bedroom house with a garage, we have a cat and a bunny. We are in our late 20s, don’t smoke or party. Would like to be in a walkable neighborhood to take part of the many fun things to do in Tacoma. We enjoy gardening and taking care of the yard. As I said I’m a carpenter and would be happy to take care of odd jobs around the house.

If anyone has advice on how to rent from real people instead of just management companies that would be helpful! All we have done is look on Zillow so far and it hasn’t proved to be that great so far. If anyone has advice on looking for trades work from afar or knows anyone looking for a carpenter I would be very grateful! Looking forward to becoming part of this community.

2002 lb7 1000 mile trip

I am moving at the end of July, 1000 miles from western Colorado to Northern Washington. Anything besides an oil change and check of the fluids I should be planning on doing before the trip? Thanks
