A helpful video on discipline

Michela Allocca posted a video on discipline (148. How to enter your discipline era) that I found very interesting and thought it might benefit some of us in the sub that struggle with impulsively shopping for comfort and dopamine.

First she reframed the notion of discipline away from a rigidness of being perfect all the time and made it more of a self care and self respect tool to make our lives better and respect our time.

Particularly she mentioned how we need to have rules and discipline to stick to those rules or else we are going to be draining ourselves by negotiating and justifying purchases. Which I totally feel because I will be in my head all day about a purchase or obsessing over an item and it absolutely drains my mental energy.

My take away is moving away from shopping as a comfort activity being more disciplined with my budget and focusing on the long term goals instead of the short term satisfaction of a purchase. Tons of other good tips that I recommend checking out!

Today instead of shopping I will...

Today instead of shopping I will take care of my home.

I will clean the kitchen and appreciate what I own. I will water the garden. I will journal about my day. I will work on my current knitting project. I will cook a nice meal for my family. I will spend time with my loved ones.

Today I am not spending money.

What are you going to do today instead of shopping? Honestly there's so much else to do.

Sterling Ink Frankenstein

I got a Sterling Ink Complete planner as an experiment with the B6 size. This is very much a creative planner where I test out daily / weekly spreads so I'm not too precious with it.

Thus, I ripped off the hard cover and made my own cover out of cardstock and fabric scraps so it could fit in my Moterm B6.

Conclusion: I love it! The size is great, small enough to fit in my bag without being too heavy but big enough for all my plans. The cover is perfect and I'm very excited to customize it more.

We just moved into a new apartment and my brain is on fire wanting to organize and set it up nice. I've already gotten a few things that were out of the budget but were kind of a necessity for the space (Storage bins for the bathroom because there's no drawers, a pantry for our food)

I have an ikea cart full (Bookshelf, storage, rugs). I KNOW I should wait and save up the money but I have a paid off credit card that I'm really tempted to use for this purchase because I want my home to be set up and done asap.

Talk me down friends....

Edit : Wow thank you everyone for helping me shake this impulse! Reading these comments really helped put things into perspective and I'm slowing down on my home update shopping.
