So my AC stopped blowing out cold air once I turned it on for the first time this year. I brought it in to the dealership and they did a recharge with dye to find out where the leak was in the AC line. They called to tell me the evaporator needs to be replaced. I’m not savvy with cars but after doing brief research this does not seem like a normal issue for a car that is 5 years old and has less than 40,000 miles on it. The estimate to get this fixed is close to $5,000.

Also wanted to note that this is the second time I had to get my AC repaired on this car. The first time it was covered under warranty. I asked the service rep if this is the same issue as the first repair and I couldn’t get a straight answer out of the guy. He made it seem like it was a different part leaking the first time. At the very least I think the evaporator having wear/ leaking could have been caught during the first repair and covered under the warranty.

I wanted to see if anyone has had a similar issue or knows a little more than I do about AC evaporators dying because I feel like I’m owed a replacement from Subaru of America just based on how new the car is alone. Any insight to this is much appreciated!!
