[HOBBY] Building a Full Student Indie Film Team for an Original Feature Film

Hey everyone,

I’m a student filmmaker currently developing an original independent feature film, and I’m building a full creative team/community around the project.

This is a serious long-term grassroots indie production currently in development for future production and festival submission. I’ve already built the production pipeline/server structure, and now I’m looking for passionate people who want to help create something ambitious together.

In a world defined by atmospheric decay and societal breakdown, The Reconnection is a gritty, dystopian sci-fi horror that explores the volatile intersection of human survival and cosmic phenomena. Utilizing a high-contrast, aggressive visual style, the film centers on the concept of magnetic reconnection—not just as a scientific event, but as a visceral metaphor for the violent re-linking of broken lives in a fractured future.

Right now I’m looking for people across all areas of filmmaking and creative work, including:

Writing & Development

  • Screenwriters
  • Dialogue writers
  • Story developers
  • Script editors

Production

  • Producers
  • Assistant directors
  • Production coordinators

Visual Departments

  • Cinematographers
  • Camera operators
  • Gaffer/grip people
  • Production designers
  • Concept artists
  • Storyboard artists
  • Costume/wardrobe creatives
  • Makeup & practical FX artists

Post Production

  • Editors
  • Color graders
  • Sound designers
  • Music composers/producers
  • VFX artists

Performance & Media

  • Actors
  • Voice actors
  • Photographers
  • Social media/marketing people

The project focuses on atmospheric storytelling, grounded characters, strong visual worldbuilding, and cinematic filmmaking.

Important:

  • This is currently a collaborative/unpaid indie project.
  • Meaningful contributors will absolutely receive credit.
  • Beginners and experienced creatives are both welcome.
  • The goal is to build a real creative filmmaking collective, not just a temporary server.

If you’re passionate about films and want to be part of building an ambitious indie feature from the ground up, comment or DM me.

[Bhubaneswar] Cinematographer Needed for Psychological Sci-Fi Feature – Aiming for Netflix

Hey r/Odisha! 👋

Throwing this out here because honestly, where else do you find people who actually get this state's visual potential?

I'm directing an independent feature called The Reconnection under Deadly Productions, and I'm on the hunt for a Cinematographer/DP based in or around Bhubaneswar to come aboard.

Quick heads up before anything else — this is a low to no budget passion project. We're currently running a Kickstarter to build momentum, so if you're someone who shoots for the love of the craft and the portfolio, you're exactly who I want to talk to. Collaborators over contractors, always.

So what's the film?

It's a dystopian sci-fi — not the glossy, CGI-heavy kind. Think slow dread. The kind where the world is quietly ending and nobody's quite sure yet. The story revolves around Earth's magnetic field collapsing, and I want to shoot it here — green-violet auroras over Chilika, the decaying colonial coastline at Gopalpur, that heavy atmospheric stillness Odisha genuinely has. The aesthetic I keep coming back to is gritty, high-contrast, sculptural. Light as a character, not just a tool.

What I'm looking for in a collaborator:

  • Someone drawn to deep shadows, intentional framing, mood over flash
  • Most importantly — someone who can read the script and actually see it. That instinct matters more to me than a long CV

If you're down, drop a comment or slide into my DMs with:

Your portfolio or showreel (even rough cuts, Instagram reels, college projects — show me how you see)

Been working on a script for about six months. it's called The Reconnection. sci-fi thriller set in odisha, india. a physics teacher suppressed his geomagnetic field decay research for nine years. three students piece together what he buried.

no spaceships. no lab. the whole first act is a classroom.

specific things i'm not sure about:

  1. the teacher writes one word and says a different one — does that land?

  2. maya's two-column notebook system — too clever or does it work?

  3. the VO at the end — redundant or necessary?

  4. two-second pause where the marker doesn't move — readable on screen?

script extract in comments. we shoot in June.

i'm writing a sci-fi film about a physics teacher who buried his geomagnetic field decay research for nine years. three students piece it together.

one scene is set at the Keonjhar banded iron formation in odisha. a character crouches at the rock face, takes a kitchen magnet from his pocket, and tests it:

— sticks to the black (magnetite) band — nothing on the red (haematite) band — back to black, the pull returns

he says: "this is a hard drive made of rock. and nobody wiped it."

the script treats the BIF as a palaeomagnetic record — black bands ferrimagnetic, locked to field orientation at deposition. red bands oxidised, non-magnetic.

two questions:

  1. would a kitchen magnet actually behave that noticeably differently between the two band types? or is that too simplified to work in reality?
  2. is the BIF-as-palaeomagnetic-record treatment roughly accurate for what keonjhar actually is, or have i flattened something important?

we shoot in june. happy to be corrected before then.

We are going to shoot at the ancient iron-ore rocks in Keonjhar (some of the oldest stones on Earth!) and captured the coastal retreat at Gopalpur-on-Sea, along with Chilika's dolphins. Our goal is to show Odisha not just as a backdrop, but as a character in a global sci-fi story.

We want to show the world the cinematic potential of our state. If you’re interested in supporting a local project, check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/deadlyproductions/the-reconnection-a-student-led-dystopian-feauture-film?ref=user_menu
