First night drive on unlit road, help!

I was driving at night for the first time on an unlit, windy, 40mph road, with my dipped headlights on whenever someone approached. Some cars coming at me were ok but to be honest a lot of them had full beams on and I could see NOTHING! I don't know if they had full beams or the new led lights? Mine are halogen. But surely they wouldn't make new lights that dangerous. I couldn't see anything! Does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone tried those night driving glasses? It's really put me off 😞

EDIT: there was no white line on the side of the road

Passed today! Super cheap insurance?!

I'm gobsmacked! I expected being 34 that my insurance would be cheaper but it's ended up cheaper than my friends who have been driving up to 17 years?! All information is correct and my quotes were double it a month ago when I didn't put in my license number, now I have and it's even cheaper?! Fully comp, no legal cover £0 voluntary excess, plus on topcashback comparison so I'll get £45 cashback as well...

£249.54?!

I only passed today!

Failed again today for undue hesitation and really needed to pass this time 😩

I took my first test Feb 3rd, which I booked August 25th 2025, the first Monday after passing my theory. I only had private practise for September. Unfortunately just 2 weeks later we found out my dad was palliative.

I booked this test the very next morning, Feb 4th. Everything was riding on this. Mum needs my help and I want to spend as much time with dad as possible as he is due to die in August. I have driven to and from work 4 days a week since Easter with another colleague who is now leaving next week. Mum has to care for dad so cannot take me frequently. I failed for undue hesitation. I actually got 11 driving faults this time, even though when I was less ready I only got 5.

A lorry went in to a gated area and was sticking out and I didn't know if he was going in or reversing out so I was holding up road trying to stay back to be safe 🙄 so that was the major, holding back frustrated driver behind. The rest he mentioned was I was great at checking left and right on junctions but not blind spots. Lots of undue hesitation and with another lorry in the road but only 1 was major as traffic built up behind.

I thought I'd failed for changing roundabout lanes last minute when I'd misheard his instruction instead of going the wrong way as you are advised to, yet that wasn't even a dangerous fault despite a car being behind me what I would say was quite close...maybe it was because I checked first but not under test conditions I would have decided not to cross lanes.

It seems you can't win. Trying to practise defensive driving, showing you are safe but then failing because the car behind is frustrated, but also taking risks to show progress is expected..

I feel like the 6 month wait between tests just makes me worse on tests.

[F/UK] Years of teaching have worn the soles completely smooth. Zero grip left on my favourite work shoes 🏫👣

Hey everyone! I’m a teacher based in the UK, and these have been my daily work shoes for years. They’ve survived endless long terms, standing in the classroom, and pacing the school floors day after day.

Over the years, I’ve officially walked the tread completely off them—the bottoms are entirely smooth now. They are thoroughly broken in and heavily worn from years of daily use.

Size: UK 4.5 Location: UK 🇬🇧 Shipping: UK postage preferred (discreet and tracked). Happy to ship internationally if you are willing to cover the postage costs.

Asking £50 + shipping. Drop into my DMs if you want to see closer photos of the wear or make an offer!
