Who is of a migrant background who is actually considering voting for One Nation and what are your reasons?

With the recent surge in popularity of Pauline Hanson and One Nation in both state and federal polling one must ask the question who amongst first, second and third generation migrant Australians are considering voting for One Nation?

This is a valid question worth asking considering that 30% of our population is born overseas and 1 in 3 Australians have a parent who was born somewhere overseas as well. I myself am a first generation immigrant who has become a citizen, not gonna be voting for One Nation or the two major parties but likely independent. But those of said backgrounds who are voting for One Nation would be interested to hear your reasons. Just out of curiosity.

ABCDesis who have visited their original home countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal etc. Have you enjoyed your visits? If yes, no or neutral what are your reasons?

I myself am an Australian of Indian origin who has never lived in India. Was born in Singapore and have been in Australia since the age of 12, now well settled and am a naturalised citizen.

While I was never born or have lived in India. I have had the privilege of visiting it several times for the purposes of visiting the grandparents, cousins and extended family. I've always had a love/hate relationship with the place. I love how old and ancient the culture, customs, religions and spirituality is but at the same time hate how backwards the mentality of some of the people there are with regards to caste hierarchy, gender equality and just the general lack of cleanliness and so much visible rubbish compared to what I was used to growing up in Singapore and Australia.

However since I have visited India several times I have grown to appreciate my roots much more than earlier. I would generally just visit where my family lived around Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore down South. But I have travelled the country more in recent years visiting places like Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Kerala, Kolkata and Goa. I obviously enjoyed some areas a lot more than others but it made me appreciate how diverse, unique and beautiful India is as a country despite its obvious glaring issues. But I've learned to look past them and it's made me feel less ashamed of my heritage in the face of growing Anti Indian/South Asian racism especially in the West. It's not like they don't have any similar issues either 🤪. Planning to visit some of the neighbouring countries now too, especially Nepal and Sri Lanka 👍.

So to any other ABCDesis born and raised abroad but have had the privilege of visiting the country of their parents/grandparents in the subcontinent at least once. What was your travel experience like? What was the reason for your visit? Did you enjoy your experience? Would you go back in the future? Would love to hear your thoughts.

How have comments like this become so normalised?

I probably should not be taking Instagram comments seriously but the news of an Australian family missing in Nepal being posted immediately gets a barrage of racist comments saying that "They are not Australian" or "Can't spot any Aussies" rather than praying for their safety.

Something is seriously fucked up when news about a tragedy attracts such racism like the one highlighted above. Particularly against Indian/South Asian people it's become uncomfortably normalised without any backlash whatsover. I doubt any other community would receive the same.

I may probably get downvoted for this but it has to be exposed and called out.

Edit: Wow, I never expected such an overwhelming response . For the record I am not accusing only White Aussies of being racists online. I've been ironically made fun of more by other Asians and Lebanese for being brown myself. Not generalising or accusing any one group though. Just highlighting a disturbing online trend.

How popular are parties like Restore Britain and Reform UK really?

Hello from Australia. I have been reading a lot of news from the UK for some reason recently and I couldn't help but notice that you guys seem to be going through a bit of your own version of MAGA in America with the rise of parties like Reform UK and Restore Britain.

We have a similar wave here in Australia too with the recent surge in polling of Pauline Hanson and the One Nation party. She was even in the UK recently meeting the likes of Nigel Farage, Rupert Lowe and even doing a podcast with Tommy Robinson?

So I felt like asking the question. Are the likes Restore Britain and Reform UK as popular as the UK media and even some international press is reporting, or is it all just overhyped? Also do you yourself support or know others who are supporting/voting for them? Lastly, are there people actually in favour of mass remigration like Restore and Rupert Lowe keeps preaching? Would love to here all your thoughts on this. 👍

Ideal 3 day iteninerary in Adelaide?

Hello Adelaidians. I am a Sydneysider who's coming to Adelaide very soon for work. But will have 3 days free at the end of my trip. This is my first time in Adelaide and I want to explore as much as I can.

I have already got Adelaide Central Markets, Adelaide Oval, Rundle St Mall and Glenelg beach on my agenda as well as potentially a side trip to the Barossa if possible. Would love any suggestions of additional places to see within 3 days. Any recommended hidden gems such as museums or nature walks would be ideal. Keen to hear all.

Aussie Socceroos fans who travelled to the USA for the world cup what's your verdict on the experience?

  1. How was the vibe of the Socceroos games live in person?

  2. How were you treated by Americans and other fans alike?

  3. Was anybody at the other memorable matches such as Argentina vs Cabo verde?

  4. Anyone returning to Australia already or staying on for more?

  5. Which of the 3 countries was the best host in your opinion?

Keen to hear stories!

Anyone else sick of the Socceroos naysayers?

I'm not saying it's everyone but I hate how every time the Socceroos performances are brought up in the world cup especially on YouTube and Social media. The comment sections are half full of negative bots saying they can't do shit or they are a bad team or in the worst case a reddit comment that said I can't wait for them to get their arses kicked that got 50 upvotes and yadda yadda. Seeing more of this especially in the lead up towards the game against Egypt.

That being said I'm sure some of the commenters are foreign or paid bots as is so common on social media these days or just nationalistic Egyptians. However I get the vibe that we as a nation tend to under appreciate the Socceroos squad as a whole. Everyone expects them to perform at the levels of championship teams when they are clearly underdogs working their way up. Qualifying for the world cup itself is a massive achievement.

Doesn't help the fact that the Yanks are constantly taunting us both before and after the match against them which was so clearly rigged in their favour no thanks to that horrible referee and Popovic line up decision.

But anyways good luck to the Socceroos on the 4th against Egypt. Still proud of you boys regardless of the outcome 🇭🇲🔥🦘⚽💪.
