Got side swiped. Go through insurance or fix myself?

Some dickhead side swiped me on my way to work this morning. Of course they kept driving. I filed a police report but am not optimistic that a person that drives away from an accident is insured. Question is it worth going through insurance or would it be cheaper to do the replacement myself?

Can these stairs be moved or reconfigured? (First-time buyer)

My wife and I are shopping for our first home and found one that checks most of our boxes — with one glaring issue: the stairs are right behind the front door, with maybe 2 feet between the threshold and the first step. The upstairs landing is also pretty shallow at 3–4 feet before running into the bathroom directly above.

We’d seriously consider making an offer if we knew the stairs could be reconfigured to open up the entryway. A couple of ideas we’ve tossed around:

Moving the front door to the left side of the home

Adding a platform and rotating the stairs 90° so the first step enters the left family room instead of facing the front door

How feasible is something like this? We know it’s likely a significant job — just trying to gauge whether it’s even worth pursuing before we move forward. Any insight is appreciated!

Did someone steal this???

Came out to my car today and saw this hole in the front. I’m afraid finding a replacement in this color is going to be a pain. Is this something this people steal? Are they known to fall out? Mainly want to know how vigilant I need to be.

Scratched up steering wheel

Is there anyway to fix this that not replacing the entire steering wheel? Steering wheel has scratches and scuffs I hate looking at. I know I can just slap a cover over it but was hoping for a better solution before giving up. Also can you guys recommend a good leather cleaner. Thanks in advance!

First-time buyer dilemma: Buy our co-op or find something new? (South suburbs of Chicago)

Family of four with two young boys. We currently live in a co-op owned by my MIL — my wife grew up here and is attached to it, but it’s just over 1,000 sq ft, one bathroom, and no private yard. It’s too small for us.

MIL is going through a divorce and has offered to sell us the co-op or asked us to move out. My wife wants to buy and renovate it to gain more space. I’d rather find a place that actually fits our needs from the start.

Our situation:

•	Combined income just under $80K (\~$60K mine + wife’s part-time)
•	South suburbs of Chicago
•	First-time buyers
•	Credit isn’t great
•	Concerned about interest rates, property taxes, and home prices

We love the area — close to work, great neighbors — so staying nearby is ideal. I’m just worried we can’t afford anything better given everything stacked against us. Since I’ve never been through the buying process, I genuinely don’t know what to expect.

Any advice, insight, or words of encouragement are welcome. Thanks in advance.
