In Search of Hidden Literary Gems: Request for Book Recommendations
I stumbled across the Archipelago Books website recently, and honestly, I couldn't believe I'd gone this long without knowing it existed. It felt like finding a hidden gem. Up until now, my reading list had mostly been shaped by catalogues like Penguin Random House, Everyman's Library, and the NYRB Series. Bestsellers have never really interested me; I'm drawn to literature that's overlooked by the mainstream but stands at the highest level of craft, writers like James Joyce, William Faulkner, and Thomas Mann. On the Asian side, Kawabata and Mishima have always stayed with me. Going forward, I'd love it if you kept pointing me toward books like this: not mainstream, but exceptional and deeply literary.
