Has anyone had GHSV1 go through a recurrence-heavy phase before eventually calming down again?

Has anyone had GHSV1 go through a recurrence-heavy phase before eventually calming down again?

My case has been strange because my first outbreak appeared without any clear sexual exposure and after years of apparently nothing, which makes me wonder if the virus may have been dormant long before the first recognized outbreak.

The pattern also changed over time:

- long gaps initially (~7 months, then ~4 months),

- then a period where outbreaks became much more frequent (~1.5–2 months),

- and now they seem to maybe be spacing out again and becoming milder.

A lot of this happened during a period of severe stress, chronic sleep deprivation, anxiety, nervous exhaustion, and major lifestyle disruption, which made me wonder whether my nervous system/immune system basically entered some kind of prolonged “reactivation cycle.”

I’ve now started daily suppressive valacyclovir 500 mg for ~2–3 months while aggressively trying to improve sleep, stress, exercise, nutrition, and overall nervous system/immune recovery. I’m also using things like lysine, monolaurin, vitamins, magnesium, etc.

Mainly curious whether anyone with GHSV1 has experienced:

- a temporary recurrence-heavy phase,

- then eventual return to the more typical quiet/dormant HSV1 pattern later on.

Also wondering whether a ~2–3 month suppressive therapy period sounds reasonable for trying to “break the cycle,” or whether people here would personally extend it longer.

Has anyone seen or experienced this UNUSUAL GHSV1 recurrence pattern? + suppressive therapy question

Looking for opinions/experiences regarding an unusual GHSV1 recurrence pattern and whether temporary suppressive therapy can help push it back toward dormancy. (Male mid 30s)

My case has always seemed atypical because I never had explicit sexual contact that clearly explains transmission. First outbreak was around mid-2023 during a period of severe stress, chronic sleep deprivation, anxiety, nervous exhaustion, and major lifestyle disruption while studying abroad for my master’s degree.

What confuses me is that stress/lack of sleep/friction had existed before in my life for years without triggering anything, which makes me wonder whether I may have carried HSV1 dormant for a long time before the first recognized outbreak.

Blood tests:

• HSV1 IgG strongly positive

• HSV2 negative

Likely GHSV1.

The recurrence pattern itself has also been strange:

• First outbreak around mid-2023

• Then roughly \~7 months before the next recurrence

• Then another \~4 month gap

• After that, recurrences temporarily became much more clustered, sometimes around every \~1.5–2 months

• Some later episodes were very mild, symptom-only, or fast-healing scabs without obvious blisters

• More recently, the pattern seems to be slowly spacing out again toward \~2–3 month intervals

It almost felt like my nervous system and immune system entered some kind of prolonged “reactivation cycle” after the first activation.

For context, my sleep has been chronically poor for a long time (~5–5.5 hours average, usually sleeping extremely late).

Current plan:

• Daily valacyclovir 500 mg suppressive therapy for \~2–3 months to try interrupting the recurrence cycle

• Then continue focusing on nervous system recovery / immune support afterward

Supplements/lifestyle support:

• Monolaurin

• L-Lysine

• B complex

• Zinc + vitamins C/D

• Magnesium glycinate

• Ashwagandha

• Better sleep and stress reduction

• Nutrition/hydration improvements

• Reducing friction

• Regular exercise

Main question:

Has anyone seen GHSV1 temporarily behave like this, then eventually settle into the much quieter/dormant pattern it’s usually known for?

Also, for people experienced with suppressive therapy: does a focused 2–3 month AV period sound reasonable for trying to “break the cycle,” or would you personally extend it longer?
