Apartment advice in Odessa.

Hi all, I'm relocating to Odessa for a new job and I'm totally new to Texas. Never lived here before. I'll be commuting toward Andrews and I'm looking for a one bedroom near Faudree. Priorities: safe neighborhood, solid value, quiet, responsive management. Options are Tuscany at Faudree and Dorado Ranch, Latitude 31, Andalucias Villas. If you've lived in any of these recently, how's safety, management, or average rent ? Any other places I should consider or things I should know . Would be very helpful ! Thank you.

Edit - I have narrowed down to Latitude 31 (1900 with Utilities) and Advenir (1750 with Utilities etc) so please give your thoughts on this.

Relocating to Odessa for a new job. Need local advice!

Hi everyone!

I'm a 25-year-old Indian guy moving to Odessa for a new engineering job in the next few weeks. I've never lived in Texas before, so I'm trying to figure out the best areas to stay.

I'm looking for recommendations on:

  • Safe neighborhoods
  • Apartments or property management companies you'd recommend
  • Places to avoid
  • Any things I should know before and after moving.

I'll probably stay in an Airbnb for a couple of weeks first and then look for a long-term apartment once I get there.

Any advice for someone moving to Odessa for the first time would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Passed AWS loop for EE role, original req closed, now in team-matching limbo - recruiter went quiet. Normal?

Passed the full loop (technical, behavioral, LP, Bar Raiser) for a Electrical Engineer role at AWS. Recruiter called, confirmed I passed, but said the original position closed. She offered to team-match me — circulate my profile and set up informal "sell call" with hiring manager on similar open reqs elsewhere. I said I'm open to relocating.

She said she'd send a scheduling link on a Monday. Never came. I followed up by email that evening - 3 days of silence since.

Found a few open reqs with the same title in other locations that look like a fit.

Questions:

  • Anyone been through team matching - how long did it take, and did it work out?
  • OK to proactively send a recruiter specific job IDs, or does that look pushy? (I can see 4 openings for similar role so should I send them right away or wait for couple more days?)
  • Should I apply directly to those reqs myself, or does that conflict with team matching?

Appreciate any real experiences!!!

Day 7 of post-interview silence and I'm losing my mind

Here's the whole thing. A recruiter reached out about a field engineer data center (entry level role but I have 1 year of experience) role a few weeks back. Did the intro call, then a technical phone screen. It went well enough that they moved me forward to the full virtual onsite — four back-to-back interviews across two days, each with a different person, covering behavioral questions and technical depth.

The scheduling email said I'd hear about next steps within 5 business days. Today is day 7. Nothing. I already sent one polite follow-up to the recruiter a couple days ago — no reply yet.

But my brain won't switch off. A holiday weekend landed right in the middle of the wait, which I know slows everything down, but knowing that doesn't make the silence any easier

If you've survived this stage — how? And for those who waited past the '5 days' with no word, did it still work out? Just need to hear from people who get it.

Intercaste Marriage. Me 25M want to marry 26F. I'm Brahmin she is

Hi everyone,

I’m a South Indian Brahmin guy on a student visa in the USA in a serious long-distance relationship with my girlfriend, a dentist from the Mang (Scheduled Caste) community in Maharashtra. We grew up in the same city and want to marry. I plan to settle back in India later.

My traditional parents are strongly against it, fearing it will affect my younger brother’s marriage prospects. They’ve given an ultimatum: marry her and lose contact with them for 4-6 years until my brother gets married.

I’m anxious, guilty, and completely stuck. I don’t want to lose her or my family. My parents have always been like friends and supported me in everything — this guilt is overwhelming.

Questions for those in similar situations (especially upper caste + SC partner planning to return to India):

  • What did you do?
  • Did your parents eventually come around? After how long?
  • Advice on court marriage from the US, returning to India, and handling family pressure?

Honest experiences would help a lot. Thank you.
