A mistake I will forever regret

I am 32, I never dyed my hair in all 32 years until two days ago ..
My natural hair color is dark brown-ish to black, with cold undertone. In the past 5 yrs, more and more grey hairs appeared at the front, especially the sides and I suddenly got the urge to cover them. I usually think things through but this time I failed myself…

I made the mistake of doing it at home (following family member advice) and it turned out horribly. I only dyed the front section thinking only grey hairs will be colored.. but it dyed my actual dark hair and made it lighter, orange-ish and brassy especially at the roots. The warm tone clashed terribly with my skin tone.

I went to the salon to fix it, we dyed it dark grey brown (cold undertone). It turned out good, something I can live with at least until it all grows out.

I don’t plan to dye my hair ever again, I am okay with grey hairs now and I wish I could go back in time and not do it. The hair specialist told me I can do things normal as I used to, like using normal shampoo, do hair masks, … etc until my hair grows out .

My two questions for those with experience:

  1. from now until it grows out, is it possible the color fades and my hair becomes lighter? What should I do in that case? This is giving me anxiety just thinking about it, the thought of having to maintain my hair and continue to color it forever

  2. In certain lighting, I still see glimpses of “red” or “warm brown”, and I hate looking at it. Is there anything I can do about it that is simple without dying it again? Or should I just be patient for 2 years until it grows out 🥹
