Hound of the Baskervilles

I recognize that I’m very much in the minority, but I don’t particularly like Hound of the Baskervilles. Six chapters of Watson wandering around the moor and setting the atmosphere is really just not my jam. I’m not saying it’s a bad Holmes story; obviously it’s very good. It’s just not to my taste. Anyone else?

I can never decide…

When I’m doing a rewatch (currently on Sympathy for the Devil), if I watch the movie after I finish the entire series, watch it just after Cowboy Funk, or watch it randomly any ol time because it’s just so durn good.

YouTube: The Charismatic Voice

I don’t know if any of you are into YouTube music reactors, but if so I’d really recommend Elizabeth Zharoff, aka The Charismatic Voice.

Elizabeth is a former opera singer, and she grew up not listening to popular music. So almost everything, and I do mean everything, is new to her. I mean, it boggles my mind that there are people who have never heard “Stairway to Heaven” or “Free Bird”, but there are, and she’s one. Her sheer joy when hearing all this music new to her is just wonderful.

But best of all (for this Reddit) is that she loves Rush, and Geddy’s voice! Loves it! She has reacted to numerous tracks, including “The Spirit of Radio”, “Tom Sawyer“, “Limelight”, “Xanadu”, and best of all, “2112” (the track, not the album).

Go check out her channel to watch a person fall in love with Rush for the first time! https://youtube.com/@thecharismaticvoice?si=0TXBqGR4vu0SC2M7

(I don’t know Elizabeth personally and have never interacted with her; I’m just a fan of her channel.)

My Effin Life

Reading this now for the first time, and as always it amazes me just what a normal guy Geddy was/is in so many ways. Now, in a lot of other ways he wasn’t, being the only son of two survivors of the Shoah, and growing up Jewish in a time where that could be a dicey thing to be. (I’m Jewish.)

But still, in the main, as always I’m struck by what genuinely great guys these three are. So many rockers with much shorter careers were or turned into real jerks. These guys? Yeah; no.

Also rewatching Beyond the Lighted Stage for the bazillionth time. Love when they’re all repeating criticisms of Geddy’s voice.

Despair

I barely make enough to support my disabled daughter and myself and they’re going to be within an hour and a half and I can’t even afford the cheap tickets and sometimes life stinks.

Epiphany

So tonight I was watching, for probably the 20th time, Beyond the Lighted Stage. It had reached the moment where they’ve gone out on the Moving Pictures tour and Neil is talking about how uncomfortable he is with fan meet+greets. And it occurred to me—stay with me here…

I’ve known I’m neurodivergent for a long time. My OCD, while not at As Good As It Get levels, is fairly obvious, both to me and anyone who knows me. All well and good.

My younger daughter is mentally disabled and autistic. My older daughter was getting married, and I guess she was concerned about what she might be passing on to potential children, so she took an online autism assessment (a good one, the RAADS-R). Out of a possible 200, she scored a 35. I thought, heck, just for yucks, I’d take it myself.

I scored 120. Which explained a lot, honestly.

Back to our muttons: I was watching Neil talk about how uncomfortable he is with adulation and being approached by fans and people thought, “Holy crap; I bet he was neurodivergent!”

Anyway, that’s my epiphany. I’m sure I’ll get torn apart in the comments. Wanted to share anyway.

Symmetry

Judy and Nick at the Honeymoon Lodge, and then at the weather wall. Just noticed symmetry. In the lodge, they’re in the dark, Nick is looking up at her, and Judy’s eyes are closed. On the wall, they’re on the same level, they’re looking at each other, and are bathed in light.

It’s just such a great callback.
