Am I overpaying for rent or is it fine?

Hey guys,

I’m moving from kelowna to new west. I found a place (1 bed/1 bath for me) shared in a townhouse setting. The rent is around $1300. Am I overpaying for it? Or is it fine? What do you guys think?

Would getting CIP improve my chances of finding an insurance job?

I’m statistics graduate in western canada desperate to break into insurance (UA, claims). I was wondering if pursuing the cip or any other designation would help me getting a job?

Should I go back home already?

22, I graduated this year from a “good” uni in western canada. I am an international student from a very homophobic country; been here since 5 years. I have zero friends here (tried initially nothing clicked), never been in a relationship. Also been through severe depression and constant ideation; now I’m very much better though, counseling helped and I have accepted myself.

I have got a work permit for 3 years, however immigration seems impossible currently and not thinking about my long term plans here. The problem is, I need something to do in life, and I CAN’T FIND A JOB HERE AND ITS KILLING ME. I am trying everything, applying, networking, etc. I just got one interview till now and did not get past screening. My hope right now is just get some decent work experience (as canadian experience is valued back home), make some money at least, and just live and enjoy whatever time I have left. But I don’t want to be dependent on my parents anymore, and living here unemployed won’t be sustainable for me.

I am spending hours and hours on job boards, every morning the first thing I check my mailbox and LinkedIn. I have nothing going on, makes me feel worthless. I’m not chasing competitive industries like tech or high finance; just looking at government data where demand is currently. Now I even regret going to university at all.

I crib, cry in my sleep, and think about taking the easy way out. But this is life isn’t it, I know it’s unfair and I have accepted it. When I go back home, I’ll be closeted forever and I plan to live a short life; just want to take care of my parents when they turn old. I’m already indebted to them after the expensive tuition they have paid. Anyways it is what it is, thanks for reading this.
