Learning _uncommon_ ingredients

Made a cake after long time.
I am trying weird/uncommon ingredients

I wanted to mix European and Asian tastes in this entremet. The main taste profile is avocado and tahini with a touch of miso.

The layers are the following:

  • Macadamia/Almond and Miso Dacquoise
  • Crunchy sesame and black sesame thin layer
  • Avocado/Tahini mousse
  • Matcha/Lime namelaka

I realised too late it looks like a mosquito repeller 🙈

Saros 20X and Parquet

Hello, I live in Switzerland in an apartment renovated ~20 years ago. It has Parquet.

I want a Saros 20 maily for his trick to climb small stairs, as I have a 3.5 cm one to enter the bathroom.

Before hitting the 1k button, I read it might be not good and damage Parquet on the long run.
Are there any feedback about it?

Thank you!

First time buying whole apartment furniture from Foshan (75 square meters)

Hello!

I want to buy the furniture for my full apartment in Foshan.

It's a 75 square meters:

Dining room (tables, chairs, shelves)

Living room (sofa, TV stand, shelves)

Home office (desk, chair, library)

Bedroom (bed, wardrobe)

Kitchen and bathroom are already there.

Could you suggest me a reliable service to see stuff and place an order? I've been contacted by several that I found online (e.g. Umup furniture) but I have no idea if they are reliable.

I am (obviously) afraid of scams.

I'll have to import to Switzerland and I'd take one of those import+taxes all in one services

My budget would be around 15k

Thank you!

Importing luxury furniture from China. Any experience?

Hello, many people in Europe import luxury furniture from China to save approx 50% compared to the horrendous local markup. In Switzerland these markup are even higher.

Is there any experience here? It would be my first time here.

Thank you!

Tenant advice: safe wallpaper type for textured walls & affordable import sources?

Hello!

Note: this is a technical question, not a decoration question :)

I am a tenant of an apartment in Switzerland with standard textured plaster walls (European Abrieb).

I would like to to put up wallpaper but I am concerned about demaging to the paint/plaster for when I'll move out. It's my first time doing this :)

I have 2 main areas to fill. On the left I'll create a dining room (bottom left) and living room (top left). On the right, I will crate a small home office (top right) with a divisor of some sort to separate the bedroom (bottom right)

My doubts:

  1. The Material: What is the safest choice for textured walls? Peel-and-stick non-woven (TNT), or traditional paste-the-wall? I need something thick enough to hide the wall's texture but with an adhesive that won't rip the paint off in 3 years.
  2. The Sourcing: Where can I buy/import premium, heavyweight wallpaper without paying the massive local retail markups? I'm looking for reliable global suppliers, lesser-known international online stores, or direct B2B platforms that ship worldwide.

Thank you!

[Vaud] I got scammed by the gerance.

I am furious. I am writing these words in a clearly altered mental state, so I apologize in advance for any abnormal behavior.

I moved to a newly built apartment in November 2023. Since day 1, I had thousands of problems with humidity.
I had literal water coming down the walls. they did a shitty job building the house and they had to come multiple time to fix stuff that was never really fixed.

I had to keep windows open in winter for hours, I had to buy a dehumidifier, I had to wash mould away of my clothes.

I reported multiple times to the gerance, who never really did shit.

They once sent a technician who found a water leak, FOR WHICH THEY NEVER SENT ME ANYTHING WRITTEN despite my requests.

They then sent someone to put sensors DURING CHRISTMAS, while I was not home for 3 weeks. THEY KNEW.

Now they claim that their sensors said I am not opening the windows, there is mould and I have to pay for fulll re-painting of the wall.

This is total fucking bullshit; they are the worst type of scammer, and I am wishing all kinds of bad things to them right now. this is incredibly upsetting.

Simple chocolate and pistachio entremet

Went to visit family and friends and decided to make a cake for them, with basically no equipment.

No thermometers, acetate, spatula or whisker. Just plain old grandma kitchen.

We were pleased

Despite messing up with the central creme disc which I made fall quite off centered, I am still happy with the result.

I accept suggestions for the fruit and flowers on top, I think I am messing some proportions rule, it doesn't look as elegant as I wanted.

The taste profile is a Dubai chocolate: chocolate brownie, pistachio and kunafa cream, milk chocolate mousse. The top ring is a simple white namelaka.
