Ambivalent about filing for bankruptcy and overwhelmed by resources on the subject
I have about 30k in CC debts racked up over years, including when I had to pay for funeral costs for my parents. I make low 6-figures (around 130k) but have student loans with payments that are absolutely crushing me with the new payment plans. I've been paying cc on time for years, never missed a payment, paying somewhere between $50-100 more than minimum every month. But with student loans payments increasing due to the new regulations, I can't handle it anymore. I will be in at least in red every month.
I don't have a car payment. I rent. I have a 401k. I haven't used my cards to make any huge purchases in years. It's typically just a couple of small subscription fees like $10-20 bucks to keep the cards open.
I'm thinking to declaring just to wipe the debts so I can focus on my student loans and life. But I worry that my car will be taken and I need that for work. Savings and 401k can go because I can save and build that again. I have no hope of purchasing a house because I can't afford it.
Should I just go ahead and go for it and wipe the slate clean?
Thank you for your insights.
