Tasters advice

I’m planning on applying for radiology this year and just in the process of arranging tasters.

Would having 2 general radiology tasters with one at a DGH get me maximum points for the commitment domain? There’s a massive backlog for radiology subspecialties so really struggling to arrange an IR/subspec 2nd taster.

Would greatly appreciate any advice

Signalling HCA programs

I’m just in the process of researching programs and making my signals list.

I’ve come across quite a few HCA programs that are in desirable locations and seem quite robust.

Why do people advise against applying to HCA programs when they seem quite IMG friendly and many have >50% non US IMGs? What’s the catch, if any?

Matching big 4 from a community hospital

Hey folks

Just looking for some inspiration from IMGs at community programs who managed to match cards, GI, hemeonc or PCCM.

How common is it to land one of these fellowships as an IMG coming from a community program?

What dictates whether one matches or not?

Which specialty if money is all you care about?

Let’s assume one wants to make as much money as possible over their career while practicing clinical medicine in the UK, what specialty should they go for?

Is there an agreement on the most direct path to wealth in medicine?

High mileage Audi etron GT- yay or nay?

Hey peeps

Quite interested in the Audi etron GT and found this particular one with 95k miles on the clock for around £26k. Seems like a bargain for such a nice performance EV. Can also find lower mileage ones for around 30k

Is this a good buy? Am I missing something?

What things should I look out for before buying (certain issues etc)?

Why does every img wants to do cardiology??

Like why don’t IMGs settle for hospitalist gig which pays north of 300k while working half the year? Really don’t see the appeal in grinding multiple research years to land a decent IM residency then grind again during residency to match fellowship, then lock in again for 3 yrs before making actual money.

Is there something wrong with the hospitalist option that I’m missing?

Reapplying to same programs

Recent(ish) UK grad who applied to IM but went unmatched last year as I only applied to uni programs with a step 1 attempt and below average step 2 score.

However, I interviewed at 4 very good uni programs. Should I apply to these programs again?

Credentials as below:
2024 grad
15 research items
Step 2 240
2 months USCE

Mortgage with a bad credit

Hi folks!

Thinking about buying a house soon but have a pretty bad credit score as I bought a £500 item as a student 4 years ago which I could afford to pay off, so my account was defaulted. Other than that have not even taken out any debt and stated using credit cards just a few months ago, and have been on top of payments.

This is my 2nd year working full time and I’m earning just shy of 70k, and have very few expenses.

How will this affect my mortgage application? Anything I can do to still secure a decent mortgage?

Been noticing that there are quite a few programs in NY/NJ that take IMGs left and right with 0%USMDs.

Can anyone shed some light on some problems with these programs +/- why they’re so IMG friendly?

I went unmatched last year as I aimed too high with my programs list so contemplating applying to these bad boys next cycle.

Would appreciate any insight!

2024 grad

FY2 doctor in the UK

Step 1 attempt

Step 2 240

2 months USCE

15 research items

ECFMG certified

Applied to 100 IM programs (all university based with some uni affiliated) and got 4 interviews.

Felt interviews went quite well and didn’t have any concerns.

Where did I go wrong?

What can I do differently for the upcoming cycle?
