Breast radiology culture

Can someone please tell me what is normal in breast radiology? I am independent in general ultrasounds, ct biopsies including lung and ultrasound biopsies (including liver and peirtoneal) but ive been in my breast radiology rotation for a while now and they were very reluctant to let me biopsy. When I ask they said no because the patient might bleed or get a pneumothorax??? Apparently the consultants in my training programme were not independent in reporting mammograms or mri when they started their first year as consultant (some even biopsies!) and this is normal??? Some had not reported any mris prior to starting their consultant job and this was 5 years ago, not way before when mri breast didnt exist. What is the point of doing a rotation if you're not going to be able to do anything or gain competencies? Or is this a case of them gatekeeping and not wanting to train me?

Incoming ST1: trust will pay for one course/resource- any suggestions?

As above my trust pays for one course for aspirational career choices.

Does anyone have any decent suggestions? Maybe something that isnt live and I could carry on using throughout my career.

FRCR Exam Prep vs Radwise - Final Verdict for FRCR 2A

As the title says, can the recently FRCR 2A passed people genuinely comment on what they consider to be the best online resource is - for revision of concepts asked in the latest exams held?

Highly appreciative and thankful.

Revise radiology reviews

Looking to sit 2B in October. Anyone used this before? How well did you feel it prepared you for the exam?

I could get most of the combined fee funded on my study budget (using a discount), but this would probably be at the expense of going to any other courses. Looking to hear what people think before committing.

Private reporting

A few colleagues and myself have emailed teleradiology companies if we could start reporting for them but they just say they're full. How does one even start or get a job with these companies or do I have to wait for someone to retire (like the NHS consultant jobs)?

ST1-2 Resources to build knowledge

Completed part 1, but with on calls looming in a couple months, I'm feeling a bit anxious and keen to start building up a knowledge base. Any books or online resources that I can use to get a grounding for common pathologies? I've considered just starting Crack the Core, would that help? Thanks

What is the FRCR 2B formula?

Hi fellow rads,

I have just recently passed the 2A (what a relief). I am planning to sit the October sitting. I have not yet started any revision for this so whatever I have now is my decaying 2A knowledge bank.

I was wondering if it was a good idea to sit the October sitting and if so what do you think the roadmap should look like in terms of what resources I should use and to what intensity I should revise them (eg people say you should know crack like the back of your hands for 2A)?

Indemnity cost

I was enquiring MDS, MPS and MDDUS for indemnity with approximate gross private income of 40k (I have no idea, just a blind guess; through teleradiology) in addition to the NHS work. And the quotes from MDS and MDDUS are for 5.8k (what?) and MPS for 2.4k. Why this much variability, and how do they calculate this?

Fellowships and Post CCT

If someone CCTs outside london (but within England) but wants to work in London/ do a fellowship in London post CCT, is it alot more competitive?

Im assuming London trainees will have somewhat of an edge but are the chances or relocating to London from outside of London (within the Uk) difficult? Or is it more experience?

Hexarad reporter share scheme

I was looking at teleradiology options and I was sent a document by Hexarad team regarding 'reporter share scheme'. It says they would give free shares (available through vestd.com) based on how many exams reported every 6 months, with condition being minimum 120 reports per month and exclusive tele reporting only to hexarad. Anyone have any idea regarding this scheme? Is it worth chasing the numbers per month for this?

What do you do for fun?

Resident trying to find some inspiration to become a balanced person. All I seem to do is report and study. Can’t remember the last time I did something fun or interesting.

Seems like everyone in my scheme is just obsessed with exams, arcp, consultant jobs, etc.

What do you all do for fun?
