Any advice for Canadian NMT wanting to move to the UK

Hello! I am a Canadian NMT I am registered and have a B.sc in Nuc med. I am not a radiographer, and never took any Xray courses. What are the chances of getting the HCPC license? Considering the price I do not want to apply unless Im sure they will certify me. Any other advice would be deeply appreciated!! Thank you!

new IR trainee

I have just started IR training in a new deanery and am on the struggle bus trying to manage expectations from consultants as well as from myself. I don't think the imposter syndrome has been this bad even when I was an FY1.

The other trainees in the deanery who have started with me are originally from here so they know the team well. I'm still trying to find my feet with the way things are done here.

The trainees who have started with me have also done a lot of IR and seem to do a lot of basic procedures independently. They seem to be performing at the level of an ST5 or ST6 at least to me, even though we have just started ST4. I don't even know if their level of independence is what is expected from me at this stage. For some of these procedures they do independently, I have only observed them before. Objectively I'm not at their level and I think this feeds into some of the expectations from the consultant body and my imposter syndrome. I'm worried this will come back to haunt me at ARCP when I'm compared with my colleagues.

So far, only one consultant has been understanding and treats me like I know nothing about IR, which is great. Most assume I am equally competent as the other trainees and then look horrified that I cannot even explain the basic steps to a procedure we are about to do. I know I need to put in the groundwork and read up but there is only so much I can do every evening. One of the consultants even asked me if I had just started ST1 because I couldn't even label the arteries properly on the angiogram.

I feel like a complete fraud and have underestimated how steep this learning curve is. Each time I hear a consultant say "you must have done this so many times", I cringe having to tell them I have maybe only done it once or have never done it before. I know this will pass and I will eventually get better but I'm getting quite disheartened at the end of every day. I am starting to dread going to work every morning.

Any tips to thrive in IR especially at the start? What resources did you use and how did you navigate this period of time if you started off training not having done much before?

Tasters advice

I’m planning on applying for radiology this year and just in the process of arranging tasters.

Would having 2 general radiology tasters with one at a DGH get me maximum points for the commitment domain? There’s a massive backlog for radiology subspecialties so really struggling to arrange an IR/subspec 2nd taster.

Would greatly appreciate any advice

FRCR 2A question banks

What's everyone using for question banks?

I've got a revise radiology subscription but some of the questions are very clearly AI written and despite recognising this, I'm just using it for volume/to expose areas that need review. For an idea of how AI written they are, some of them even have the answer in the question.

Bearing in mind my Revise radiology subscription was so expensive and I wasn't expecting to have to pay so much money just to then have to fork out for a second subscription, I would appreciate any takes on other question banks that are held in high regard by others.

I've heard good things about RadWise. Any elder years have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

2A Revision Courses

Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone had a 2A course they’d recommend or advise against? I been considering the High Yield FRCR 2A Online Crammer Course vs the Revise Radiology one, does anyone have any experience of these? If anyone knows of any others please let me know.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Edit: Thanks for the recommendations. So far I’m about half way through the RadWise question bank and have read both Core Radiology and Crack the Core. I was looking for a revision course to help with any areas of weakness.

2A vs 2B content

Hi , sitting for 2A in Nov. May I ask - those who have taken both exams, what sorts of pathologies/recurring topics come out in each exam exclusively versus tested in both exams ? Trying to build more associations and test myself in various ways to consolidate knowledge.

FRCR Part 1 Anatomy Question Bank

Hi guys,

RadQBank is still relatively new, and we’ve been actively developing it with input from candidates who have tried it so far.

We started RadQBank with the belief that there was room for a question bank that more closely reflects the depth and style of the real FRCR Part 1 Anatomy exam, while keeping revision focused and effective.

Our aim is simple: to provide a focused resource that helps candidates prepare effectively and hopefully pass Part 1 Anatomy in one sitting, rather than simply working through a large volume of questions.

We’ve continued to refine the question bank along the way, from the questions themselves to the features and overall revision experience.

We’d now love to hear from the wider FRCR community. If you have a chance to try it, we’d really appreciate any thoughts on your experience, what you found useful, and anything you feel could be better.

There are some free questions available to try:

www.radqbank.com

Any feedback — positive or negative — is very welcome. We’re continuing to develop RadQBank and hope to make it an increasingly useful resource for future Part 1 Anatomy candidates. Thanks!

Screen for reading x ray advice

Hello everyone! I'm currently diving deeper into the radiology world and would love some advice on screens that are good enough for actual diagnostic reading. I read that there are specifically "approved" medical monitors for reading X-rays, but since that was an AI-generated answer, I wanted to verify with the professionals here how necessary that is in daily practice.

More specifically, I'd like to know if the current generation iPad Pro (M5) is a good screen for reading scans. I don't mean just "fairly good," but really good for spotting subtle details. Is it worth the investment as something I could reliably use for years to come? Or would pretty much any iPad, tablet, or MacBook do the trick if paired with a solid DICOM viewer?

Lastly, what are your thoughts on expensive OLED gaming monitors? Are they suitable for detailed diagnostic work when reading studies remotely or at home?

I appreciate any insights you can share! Thanks in advance.

2B Shorts Resources

For the new(ish) format are there any good resources for the shorts?

(Not including reporting real cases at work, which I understand can also be very helpful)

New ST1 - need some structure to Anatomy revision

I have close to zero baseline anatomy knowledge, and feeling overwhelmed with the lack of structure/guidance on approach to starting anatomy revision with no background knowledge.

Where do I start and with what resources?

Should I start with the radiopaedia courses or does that require more baseline knowledge?
