Wanting our bio child to have more inheritance than stepkids.
II have two stepkids who came into my life about four years ago, and they’re older teens now.
Before my current marriage, I had my own life built already — a previous home, savings, retirement accounts, and equity from my divorce. When my husband and I bought our house together, the down payment came from my savings and the equity I brought into the marriage.
Lately I’ve been thinking about estate planning. If something happens to us, I’d want my daughter to receive my retirement money (assuming my husband passed before it was all used) and also receive a larger portion of the house equity — around 30% more.
For me, it’s important that the assets I worked hard for before this marriage primarily benefit my biological child. My stepkids will also likely receive an inheritance from their mother, who earns significantly more than we do.
Anyone have a similar situation? What did you do.
