Job as a process operator in a (petro)chemical/farmaceutical company

Hello, I am 29 years old from Belgium. I have 5+ years experience as a process operator in an A+ chemical company as a process operator in Antwerp.

After the closure of the company I used to work for, I went to do a bachelors degree in applied computer science (3years). I am now about to start my third year but I have only heard negative news about the job market in IT. I am considering to start something new somewhere else when I finish my degree.

Im native in dutch, my english is good and french basic.

Any advice for getting a good job?

What can I expect in terms of salary as a process operator there or other jobs?

Because german is a main language in Switzerland, especially for the chemical industry I am considering learning it the coming year.

  1. How important is the knowledge of german for a good job as a process operator?

  2. What can I expect as a salary there, I used to have around 7500 brut in Antwerp but pay 50% in taxes

  3. Any other tips/advice?

Am I the only one who feels excluded by his (old) circle of friends since he achieved something in life?

I am 27 years old now and managed to buy a modest home by working hard since I was 18. I bought it without borrowing a single euro or receiving any help from anyone. Now, I thought people would be happy for me, but I feel more like I am being excluded in subtle ways. For instance, I suddenly get invited to do things with my friends only at the last minute. I also used to think they would be happy for me, but I don't see it at all; I'm actually starting to doubt whether what I have achieved is really that good. Yes, of course there are people who achieve 100 times more than me, etc., but it is something I worked hard for and refrained from buying expensive/fun things like cars all those years. All the friends I have are currently renting a home or still living at home. I always thought they would see it as inspiration, etc., but it seems to be completely different. I can't really talk about it with others either, because I don't personally know anyone in my immediate circle who might be experiencing this as well. Are there people who are experiencing something similar?
