Dry Cleaners: What’s the Most Frustrating Part of Your Daily Operations?

Over the years I've been operating my own laundry business and I have to say that there are just so many issues that only someone in this industry understands.

Some of the issues that are quite common for us include:

Clients' insistence on same-day delivery for everything

The ability to manage staff members' responsibility and training process

Delaying clothes due to machines malfunctioning

Dealing with challenging clients when it comes to stain removal

Proper tracking of orders on a busy day

Increasing costs of chemicals, electricity, and labor

Comparison with huge online laundry platforms among local clients

WhatsApp calling or messaging for order updates

Scaling up the business without losing quality

And what I realized is that every single laundry business faces all those problems but not even talks about them.

Thus, I would like to ask other dry cleaners or laundry business owners:

What issues do you face daily in your laundry business?

What consumes your time the most, causes most stress and impacts your profits?

Need Advice

Hello everyone,
I’m relatively new to the dry cleaning industry and currently trying to improve my spotting knowledge. One thing I’m struggling with is identifying different types of stains/spots when a garment first comes in. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to understand whether a spot is oil-based, protein-based, tannin, dye transfer, chemical damage, or something else entirely just by looking at it.

I’d really appreciate advice from experienced dry cleaners and spotters here:

  • How did you learn spot identification in the beginning?
  • What signs or patterns do you look for first?
  • Are there any practical tricks to quickly identify what type of spot you’re dealing with?
  • Which mistakes should beginners avoid while spotting?
  • Did you use any charts, guides, or training methods that helped you improve faster?

I want to avoid damaging garments and build confidence in stain treatment, so any real-world advice from veterans of the business would mean a lot.

Thank you in advance 🙏
