Miscarriages because of TPO?
Hello everyone,
I have been diagnosed with elevated levels of TPO last week (103 IU/l). My reason for testing was: I had a miscarriage at 15 weeks last year and another three months ago at 20 weeks. In this last pregnancy, everything was fine until week 17, when we found out that our baby boys growth had slowed down - we received the diagnosis IUGR. At our 20 weeks appointment, we found out he no longer had a heartbeat. In the clinic, they took some blood - my TSH was at 4,39.
As there was no other obvious explanation to our losses (we tried running genetic tests with a sample from our son, but it didn’t work. Placenta seemed normal. No sign of infection.), I asked to get my thyroid hormone levels checked. TSH was now (about 3 months later) at 3,49. T4 and T3 were also within the normal range.
My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 12 weeks. After that, I have had 3 healthy children out of 3 uncomplicated pregnancies. My two late miscarriages came after them. I am incredibly grateful for my living children, but I keep wondering what has changed; why my body can’t hold my babies any longer. Could the elevated level of TPO have had influence on the placenta (despite my TSH levels being only mildy elevated)?
