Looking for some advice as a beginner

Hey everyone!

Hope you’re all having a great week. I’m looking to jump into selling on Amazon FBA and could use a quick sanity check from those with some experience.

I found a microphone supplier on Alibaba where the unit cost is around CA$3.30, and similar mics are going for CA$20–$30 on Amazon. The margins look great on paper, so I’m thinking of ordering a small test batch to see how fast it moves.

Before I order I wanna know a little more about FBA Costs, for those selling in Canada, what unexpected fees (duties, prep, FBA storage, PPC ads) usually eat into that $20–$30 price point? Also to import from China would I need a registered business and importing account or can I just get away without having to do that if I get DDP?

Any other advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Looking for some advice regarding working with carrier or hauling under my own authorities (Canada)

Hey folks,

Hope everyone is having a great week!

I’m currently an O/O working with a carrier in Toronto, and so far things have been going well. I’m paid on a percentage basis, and I currently own 2 trucks and 2 reefers.

My CVOR is expiring this winter, and I’ve been considering taking one of my older trucks and trailers out and running under my own authority.

The biggest thing holding me back is finding consistent loads. I’ve heard that smaller carriers can have a hard time getting decent loads on load boards, especially when they’re just starting out.

For those of you who are running under your own authority, is that actually the case? How difficult was it to find good, consistent loads when you first started? Is it realistic to run a single truck independently using load boards?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has made the switch from working under a carrier to running under their own authority, especially in Ontario.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Question about marine medical (Canada)

Hey everyone,

I’m currently exploring the marine industry as a potential career path and have been looking into several programs offered by Georgian College.

I’m familiar with most of the medical requirements that Transport Canada (TC) has posted on its website, but I have a question regarding exophoria. My measurements are 16 prism diopters at distance and 17 prism diopters at near. My optometrist has told me that I have very good control of it.

However, I haven’t been able to find any specific information from TC regarding acceptable limits for exophoria. Has anyone with exophoria gone through the marine medical process or been in a similar situation? I’d appreciate any insight or experiences you can share.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,
Im thinking of travelling using Qatar Airways in the coming week im flying Toronto - Islamabad. And I am concerned about the STPC policy. I did call the helpline to ask if I was eligible and they said yes, but on the website it says that people are eligible if there isnt a shorter layover available. The one Im trying to book is a 10 hour layover and the shortest available one is 2 hours. If someone who has travelled a similar route could clarify that would be great.

Thanks in advance.
