Help/encouragement needed!

Long post! Help! I am so frustrated. I had been on an old school Medtronic pump for so many years. I finally decided to switch to a new pump to get my sugars under better control. I switched to the Mobi. Does anyone ever get any sleep with this thing? This is not sustainable. My blood sugar was low all night (in sleep mode). Sometimes I don’t think it’s realistic how low they expect our blood sugar to be. I have done everything right that they asked me to do and it woke me up low 2 times. I finally got to sleep at 2 am after eating 3 packs of fruit snacks and a pack of peanut butter crackers and woke up low again at 7 am. I ate a pack of fruit snacks for the 7:00 low because I desperately wanted to go back to sleep, then it woke me up 30 minutes later saying high. Please tell me this gets better. I want better blood sugar control, but not at the cost of my sleep and sanity!

Time for a change?

Hi everyone - Long post……I have been a nurse for 15 years with experience in cardiac step down, home health (briefly), and found my home in the NICU for the past 12 year.

I am extremely burnt out and exhausted. I have a health condition that leads to chronic fatigue. BUSY 12 hour shifts taking care of critical babies doesn’t help that. I often can’t sleep well between shifts and I spend my days off recovering as it takes me longer than most to recover from shifts. I have seniority and serve as a leader in my unit and most often get the exact schedule I want, so I have it made as far as that goes.

With children that are very busy in extracurriculars, it’s very important for me to be there most of the time. 3 12’s allows me to do that. However, as I mentioned, my days off I am usually so exhausted I can’t function.

All of that being said, I’m considering a change and would like advice. I know I would not be happy doing 5 days a week in office/in person. The thought of going to work every day is not appealing to me at all. I’m not sure if I want to switch to something lower paced where I can still do 3 days, such as PACU or something, because those are still long shifts. Working from home sounds appealing, but I’m concerned about the stability of those types of jobs. I’m looking for something long term. I know most remote jobs you still have to work 5 days a week. Has anyone had a remote job where you can still do 3 12’s or 4 10’s remotely? I apologize for the long post and would appreciate a lot of different advice. Thank you!

Deroofing

Hi friends,

I had deroofing done on my underarm 1 week ago. I’ll be honest, it has been quite awful, but hoping it will be worth it in the long run.

Here is my issue - I’ve started experiencing more pain now at 7 days than I was initially. Maybe it’s just where it is in the healing process?

I’m a Nurse and I am very familiar with wound care, but I cannot find a comfortable dressing. The doctor said to do Bactroban (which burns like hell), non-stick pad, then absorbent pad or gauze.

It is also draining a lot and it gets uncomfortable when it’s wet. I have been doing a non stick pad followed by a bordered silicone foam as that’s much more comfortable and my surrounding skin was reacting to the other tapes.

Has anyone had their underarm done and found a dressing that’s most comfortable to them? When will this pain stop? She said it could take 8-12 weeks to heal, and I’m only at 1 week and cannot stand this. : (
