Womens stance in christianity question

Hi! I have a question because I'm trying to understand a perspective that's very different from my own.

Last night I had a discussion with someone I know. He strongly defended Christianity, even though he isn't actually Christian himself. I said that I personally see most religions as having misogynistic elements, since many religious texts and traditions place women in a lower position than men.

He responded by saying that Christianity is the only religion that doesn't put women down. I brought up several Bible passages that, to me, seem to portray women as subordinate to men. His response was that those passages are metaphors or that I should consider the historical context in which they were written.

This left me confused. I understand that historical context matters, but I'm struggling to see why that changes the meaning of passages that appear to treat women as less equal. He also argued that I should appreciate Christianity because Europe and my country were built on it, and that women in some parts of the world have it much worse today. I replied that I believe many of the rights women have today came primarily from people who fought for equality, rather than from religion itself.

I'm not looking to restart that argument here. What I'm genuinely trying to understand is whether I'm interpreting the Bible incorrectly, especially the Old Testament. Am I missing something important about how Christians understand these passages?

Could you point me to Bible verses that are commonly seen as uplifting or affirming women, as well as verses that people interpret as placing women in a subordinate role? I'd also appreciate any explanation of how Christians reconcile those passages. I really want to understand what gives him this perspective, even if I don't end up agreeing with it.

Sorry if my English isn't perfect, it's not my first language.

Is christianity putting women down?

Hi, so, last night i had a fight with a guy i know, and he has some sort of obsession with praising christianity ( he aint even christian). I told him that i view every religion as mysoginist, since they almost all, set some sort of standarts of females begin less than males. He sent me some tiktok with words of: Btw christianity is the only religion to not put down women. To that i replied with parts of bible that reffer to women as less. He kept telling me its all a metaphor and to mind the time it has been written in, WHAT?? what makes ME so different from any other girl that suffered from begin viewed as less hundred ( and more and less) years ago?? he then kept getting more and more upset saying how i hate men and how im selfish cuz i hate on the religion my country and the whole europe were built on ( hes referring to the fact that we have the privilege to live in a good situation and much more others cant) and called me ungrateful cuz if i apparently lived in radical islamic state i would just get k*lled for saying this?? i told him how the only reason we as women are the least opressed in functional society weve ever been is not thatnks to his beloved religion, but to the weomrn that got tired of it years ago and fought for our rights. This got really out of the theme, but basically the question is, am i really confusing the bible so much? esp the old law. Could u guys please give me more parts of bible that both praise women (as he says) and put women down ( as i say)?? please tell me what am i missing, i wanna understand what genuinely gives him that prespective.

i apologise for my bad grammar and forming, english isnt my 1st language

How do i tell apart skinheads/boneheads?

  1. hi um idk if this is the correct channel for this but i lwk need advice / to educate myself. but- How can I tell if someone around me is a skinhead or a bonehead? Or, like, I don't know the right term for the Nazi version of skinheads. There's this guy who rides the bus with me, and he really gives off that vibe, and it scares me. The reason I'm worried is that there's a trans boy in my area who's very obviously punk and open about his identity, and that makes me afraid for him (he just turned 14). I'm really worried about him. One time I wore a hoodie with an anti-Nazi band on it on the bus, and I already got a really bad feeling from that guy. Even more so when I think about my friend. How can I tell if the guy from the bus might actually be a Nazi? in my region there have been many incident where ( insert correct name for nazi version of skinheads im really sorry idk the correct term) beat up dozens of lgbtq+ kids during protests etc.
  2. once again i really apologise for possibly using incorrect terms i didnt want to educate myself on apps like tiktok cuz theres lot of false info, so im also asking here whats the correct term
  3. cuz like my otehr punk friend told me ( after asking what colour of lkaces should i be lookin for) that lace code is pretty much dead, so what other signs? like those lil dog whistles, im pretty sure i would notice the obvious ones, but idk the other stuff i should look for
  4. thanks for any sort of reply
